We were in Westport and Castlebar on the day the Mayo team bus was parading out of town on their way to the All Ireland (Gaelic) Football Championship. Absolute mayhem. Then we drove into Dublin, right past Croke Park a few days later on the day of the event... Mayo lost (they're like the Cleveland Indians of Gaelic Football) and oh my god the grown men crying at 2 in the afternoon on a Sunday. I did buy a cool Mayo team jersey in Castlebar but like most of the stuff I bought without trying on, an XL in Ireland is a fat-shaming device.

Frisell-Hayes-Cahill '06

As shocking to me as when Dylan went electric, but it sounds fine. Too bad about the recording quality.

Old Grimes - Julian Lage, Chris Eldridge

Two guitars only, so not really trad but really is.

Cellar Sessions: Lunasa

An upright bass is bad enough, but two guitars! Someone should call the trad police.

Temple Hill - Lunasa

Especially the second tune, Johnny McIljohn's, gets the full Lunasa treatment.

I had a cassette of this guy's music that I used to listen to a lot back in the '80s.  This song is a particularly interesting story about a farm worker being recruited into The Crimean War.

This "Maid Behind the Bar" is terrific. Alec Finn on bouzouki.

Kevin Burke - Irish Bowing Technique

Youtube makes this a wonderful time to become a musician.
Claire Egan with Sinéad Egan

A perfect view of modern Irish backup guitar. The capo is on fret 8 only because of the odd key, Bb Mix. The conversion to mixolydian was one purpose of making the album and this video. The usual key for The Swallow's Tail is E Dor (essentially E minor), with the capo off or on 2.

Very fortunate to have this wonderful band appearing regularly in my town, and to be good friends with one of the founding families.

The dancers are student's of the Boyle School of Irish Dance
