I also hope he is doing well. And I always thought SOTA stood for Same Old Technology Again.

Oooops.

It has been nearly 5 years since then.  Time to do it again.

Its also time to break out that NOS AT20SLa cart I bought almost that long ago and install it.

I'm saving it for what ?  I guess that would be for now.  There isn't that much time left to actually use it and enjoy it.

Just got a high recommendation for this turntable.
Reloop’s Upgraded RP-7000 MK2 Turntable.

Built like a tank and prolly the best TT for $500 and under.

Seen it for $449 at Sweetwater.  Not for DJ's only.

Only ever had Technics TT's.  My first was an SL1700 and it was in use from 1978 until I bought a very gently used SL1200 from Japan 2 years ago to retire and upgrade from the SL1700.  I went DD as soon as I heard about it and never considered anything else.  They are tanks.  I got a belt drive Dual 504 some 20 years ago just to have a spare in case of emergency.  Never really used it other than to make sure that it worked when I got it.

The SL1200 is back in production again and I gave it a thought for a minute but $1700 made me blink too many times to think it would sound or work better than the one I have now.

re ripping a first stereo pressing of Let It Bleed right now with the newly lubed table to compare the copy from the Mono Box set.  So far, the Mono Box version stands up pretty good against the first stereo pressing even with all the time that has passed and the Mono is from a 2012 digitally remastered source.

obtw ... gonna re rip Layla before Christmas.  Send you a pm when its finished and some other goodies.

Anyone out there looking for a turntable right now ?  I just stumbled on this one which is the same as what I have.  A 100 volt Japanese domestic sale only model of the excellent Technics SL 1200 Mk3 for a very fair price.  Please note that you would need a voltage converter which can be picked up for around $50.  They rarely pop up in this condition anymore for the price being asked.  Same website I got mine a couple of years ago, too.  Highly recommend this TT.  Judging by the pictures and condition, this never saw any DJ use.  You can ask the seller to make sure.

Took apart my SL1200 turntable to clean and lube the bearing.  For 28 years old it looked pretty good.  It did not go back together right the first two times though.  It seems that the bearing holder has a key to make sure that it only goes back in place one way that I missed the first two times.  Grrrr.  There are now 3 stripped screw heads for the retainer that I have to order for the next time I take it apart.
