For me, Barbara Billingsley was the iconic TV mom of the late '50s - early '60s. Although it's often noted that she wore a pearl necklace and high heels to do housework, it would have been unusual for any of the women in my childhood neighborhood not to have worn a dress around the house. Although Leave It to Beaver was the idealized, every-problem-can-be-fixed-in-30-minutes version, June Cleaver was pretty similar to the moms I saw in those days. I'm saddened by the passing of Ms. Billingsley.

Aww... At least she lived a long life and was loved by millions. That's a lot more than most moms will get in these days of dying dharma.
