Trump knows you can't go all that wrong bashing the pope. Even many Catholics don't trust the pope and the church hierarchy, after covering up decades of sexual assaults on children and other moral failings.

I can't predict who will win the election, but I can predict that a war mongering lover of torture and the mass murder of the poor will win the election, because the voters would only elect such a person.

Wow. Those tweeters are moronic and show their lack of knowledge. There are 5 entrances in the walls to the Vatican city and all have heavy security. You can't just walk in there unchecked. Equally it is extremely hard, in fact virtually impossible to get citizenship. The fail is definitely coming from the pope.

I could write a long essay about this Pope versus Trump situation, but I think it will be funnier to summarize it instead. What follows is – as far as I can tell – an accurate description of what happened.
