North for a  bit. We made a big loop through Idaho,Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Oregon to see a bunch of people we hadn't caught up with for far too long. heat powered espresso maker. They are a staple in every Italian kitchen for the last 75 years. 


Sort of a mini percolator, but it doesn't cycle, just uses steam pressure to push water through the grounds once.  They make a seriously good cup of coffee.  

I use ours with a little butane burner, but got one that works with induction as I was planning power for the van. I have the power and an induction cooktop, but the moka pot is too small to activate the induction. I still got my coffee, just not per the plan. 

Edit: Moka pots are cheap and fun. If you like coffee you owe it to yourself to try one. It's slightly more hassle, but if the power fails and you have a flame, it's a handy backup too.

Yep. For the record, these NSF posts are not bureaucratic, they're essentially on loan from universities around the country. The government pays for research that may not have an immediately obvious benefit; things that a private funder wouldn't pursue. But maybe talking about bees vs climate change was too woke.
