The thread seemed perfect for this morning's comment, even if it's a bit tangential.

Over the past six months, I've seen several interviews and stories about the 40th anniversary of Springsteen's "Nebraska".  This morning I ran into another one that I thought was pretty good (NY Times - link is archive)

What we can learn from Bruce Springsteen's Great Left Turn

I've always liked Bruce in moderation.  Growing up in New Jersey, I tended to dislike the Superfans.  I never spent much time with Nebraska, but am enjoying it a great deal recently.

So, Nebraskans, is this ballad based on a true story?

Actually, the diagonal drive across Nebraska, more or less from Chadron to Grand Island (passing along the way the Nebraska National Forest, yes really and no it's not corn), is, especially in the spring, a really, really beautiful piece of highway.

And I blew up a transmission in Grand Island, once, but that's a different story. . . .

i grew up in nebraska. i left when i was 24 in 1986. i lived in Omaha, I went to Tech High, i went to UNL for 2 years, I graduated from Creighton University. While not there now, i do consider myself a cornhusker.

Plan is to live out in western nebraska, say chadron area within the next 10 to 15 years. Buy a ranch, have a few horses and hopefully by then Bo Pelini can get those huskers back to what osborne and devaney had them at. Go Big Red!

WOO HOO. GO HUSKERS!

There is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U
Where the girls are the fairest
The boys are the squarest
Of any old place that I knew
There is no place like Nebraska
Where they're all true blue
We'll all stick together in all kinds of weather
For dear old Nebraska U.

Mom is an NU alumnus.

How many pictures are of corn fields?
Seriously, that's wonderful. I'll be certain to check it out. My mom is from Nebraska and that might be the perfect gift for her. I hope she likes Art Deco as much as I do...Well hell, maybe it's the perfect gift for me.

I just checked out the book. I was just looking from a design standpoint right now. It's beautiful. Very nice layout, Greg.
