Can I afford to retire?

Well, since 1980 there are no such things as pensions, except for the people who don't need them.  And the 401k idea sucks so bad that there's no way I could retire on that.  Especially since I had to cash in my 401k funds to make ends meet during the two Bush Great Recessions.

OTOH the stock market has more than doubled since President Obama has gone to work, so if we can keep the GOPs from stealing my FICA money and plunging us into another recession, I may be able to retire on the money that my grandparents left me, after my mom dies.

I guess I'll be very invested in this November's election!

Yep.  Routine is important.  The days of the week become blurred without having to be somewhere everyday.  Try to make sure you eat breakfast.  If you take meds regularily, organize that around meals. 

One of the biggest challenges of retirement is monthly money as opposed to every week or every two weeks or whatever.  Especially if things are tight and you don't have a retirement fund.  Get your bills due dates organized so they never conflict with your retirement checks.  Space the due dates to at least 10 days after you get your checks.  Credit card companies will allow changes in due dates with a simple phone call.  Make it so you can pay the bulk of your time sensitive bills all on the same day.  Utilities are not time sensitive and do not reflect on your credit record.  If you are keeping the lights on, you're on time.  Do try and space your rent / mortgage payment about 15 days apart to allow for financial emergencies.  Get yer bills organized so that they only come due twice a month.  Theoretically you could get them all organized so you just have one day per month to do it all, but its nice to have a fudge time factor built in so you can keep the cash flowing.  Once you have your bills organized then you can find ways to use your time without worrying about did you do this or do that ?

Build any subsequent routines around breakfast, the bills and pills.  Things will find a way of taking care of themselves once you have these two / three items on auto pilot.
And don't forget the lottery tickets ...
