You are correct here, Sir, except I would give President Obama an A plus. . .   I think he is doing fantastic, and I am soooo optimistic since we now have such great leadership. . .   we will have a couple or so million more home loan defaults this year, and it is going to take some significant time to repair the economic disasters the Republican lap puppies for the rich generated,   but I am optimistic. . .   Obama is my hero. . .

Vern: Do you think Mighty Mouse could beat up Superman?
Teddy: What are you, cracked?
Vern: Why not? I saw the other day. He was carrying five elephants in one hand!
Teddy: Boy, you don't know nothing! Mighty Mouse is a cartoon. Superman's a real guy. There's no way a cartoon could beat up a real guy.
Vern: Yeah, maybe you're right. It'd be a good fight, though.

In one year, it's not realistic to expect a miracle let alone a series of them, but it's not too much to expect something other than speeches.
While I agree that Mr. Obama hasn't lived up to his some of his promises (the blatant reversal of his pledge to end the stupid, nonsensical war in Afganistan is the most egregious example) I still haven't given up on him. As I've said repeatedly, it was those twenty-eight years of Republican misrule, arrogance, stubborn stupidity, and (in some cases) outright criminality which brought us to our present state. To expect that any one person can reverse this direction overnight isn't rational. It will take longer than 28 days, 28 weeks, or even 28 months. As Obama himself said during the campaign (how quickly we forget) it might even take longer than one term!

I also agree with you that the jobs situation is his most pressing concern and poses a real challenge to his getting re-elected. Still, I believe he is doing what he can. But for crying out loud, he's up against the pharmaceutical industry lobby, the insurance industry lobby, the military-industrial-complex, the Wall Street racketeers and the international Banksters. Give the guy a break! No president in recent memory has come to office with so many overwhelming problems already at the door.

Mark E.'s grade: B for effort.

Of course, we should not discount the deal Mr. Obama cut with Big Pharm and others as he and Democratic Leadership try to cobble together a health care plan that as understood by The People, is being rejected by a handsome majority.
28 years of Republican misrule? Oh, those times when a Republican held The White House and Democrats held Congress? Lets not forget for convenience of discussion those 40 uninterrupted years, 1954-1994, that Democrats held The House. Would that not make them complicit in the misrule you speak of? Or were they just idle bystanders? And if so, what is they were doing all those many years? It took both Parties years of sloppy housekeeping or outright neglect to bring us to our current point in time. I wonder just how much of a Sisyphean effort some will require to admit to that? Perhaps as much effort for Mr. Obama to now realize it's his Presidency and not that of those who came before him?

If I had to grade Mr. Obama on his first State of The Union and nothing else, a solid F. For a so-called Constitutional Scholar, he placed a portion of The Declaration of Independence in The Constitution. No folks, that's not nitpicking, that's not a willingness to overlook such a glaring error, again by a so-called Constitutional scholar. But in the whole of Mr. Obama's first year, I could justify a shaky D, at best. Going back again to the SOTU address, jobs jobs JOBS!, soon to be dropped, or so it seems, while we go back to health care in the same approach that a majority of The People are rejecting. The slow action following the almost horrible Christmas day attempted airplane bombing *the response  to a family friend's child suffering a cut chin was prompt in comparison*. The shout-out when the moment called for Mr. Obama to first address what took place at Ft. Hood. The bashing of so many programs initiated under Mr. Bush that are still in place and in fact, are not altered or removed. The failure to show transparency, the end of no-bid which didn't last a year, ethics which is challenged by how many tax cheats promoted for high positions, the failure to properly vett many who upon close inspection, would not be welcomed on most County Councils, saying one day we're broke and then offering a budget with a 12% across the board increase, the lines in the sand with Iran, only to be redrawn again and again. Capitulation to Russia after praising Polish and Czech Republic leaders on the planned placement of missiles and radars by then pulling those planned emplacements without anything in return from Russia, thus leaving Poland and The Czech Republic hanging out to dry *after their leaders braced against their People's strong resistance to the missiles and radars*. Insulting Norway's King, repeatedly insulting Great Britain *yes Mr. President, despite whatever imagined slights you and the First Lady might feel from Great Britain, the Brits remain our best and most faithful ally...they are our friends*, bowing to other leaders and claiming, falsely, that that is US protocol *and on that, not even bowing correctly if that were called for, to the Japanese Emperor*. Failure to lead on major initiatives while allowing others to author them. On the positive side, not much: hope for those who purchased it is fading for the many. Change? Not. A different way of doing things? Not.
In one year, it's not realistic to expect a miracle let alone a series of them, but it's not too much to expect something other than speeches.

A B+ you say?  He thinks a lot of himself doesn't he?

He gets an F until he and his goons focus on the economy and people get back to work and start making money again.

This is for the benefit of Monkeysdad, a deluded fool who thinks that one can easily find a job when none exist.
From the NYTimes (that radical left wing rag!):

The New Poor

Millions of Unemployed Face Years Without Jobs

I read the paper Mark, I watch the news, I know whats going on out there. I was "underemployed" last year for 5 months, I felt the chill although not nearly as bad as you and many, many others. I've taken a jab or two at you in the past because you come off as someone who's quit; as someone mentioned to you of late, you seem to feel that the sky is falling or has already fallen. Pretty negative in my estimation.

Just so's you know where I'm coming from: I'll never give up. Last year while underemployed(and scared) I was always thinking about how to improve my lot, my chances, whatever to be fully employed; and if I couldn't get fully employed...or even lost my part-time gig, what would I do then?! What industry could I take my talents to? What salary can I make it on until aerospace gets back on the upswing?

By no means do I think or believe that you or anyone else just go out there and get a job, but I do think that if you're not thinking out of the box and doing something about it that it'll never happen!

No. Only my name is phoney.

I'm exactly who I say I am; an unemployed middle aged male living in Section8 housing in downtown Portland OR.

I long ago lost my looks. My politics are progressive, religiously I'm an atheist. I deliberately imbibe alcohol, smoke pot (when I can afford it) and lust after attractive young women (sometimes I even get laid by them.)

I watch movies on DVD which I rent from the public library. I read a lot of books (I have the time to do it now.)

I have no hopes, no dreams, no prospects. I am a happy man. (Happier than you, at any rate.)
