LONDON (AP) — A former Miss Canada finalist has become the first graduate of a Liverpool university's groundbreaking degree program based on analyzing the Beatles' music and their impact on Western culture.
Liverpool Hope University officials believe the master's program offers the first advanced degree based on the life and times of the Fab Four.
Mary-Lu Zahalan-Kennedy joined the program when it started in 2009 and graduated today. She is one of 12 full-time students of the program — "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society."
Zahalan-Kennedy, a singer and actress, said the course provided insight into the wide-ranging influence of the Beatles.
The course also deals with how the port city of Liverpool helped shape the group's identity.
I still have my Elvis Presley stub from 1974, and it was $7.50. I was surprised my dad was so generous to buy it for me, really.
Yeah, it's funny. In 1974 the average hourly wage in the US was apparently around $4.50, so $7.50 was a lot of money to spend on a concert ticket back then. These days, one couldn't go to most shows for ten times their hourly wage.

50 (FIFTY !) years ago The Beatles (aka the best pop-band ever in my eyes, and don't come around with the Stones or whatever....) celebrated their first public concert in Hamburg/Germany and started their extraordinary career.
Since I was a little pooper I've always loved their music and even now there's no CD for the car and no Load for the mp3-player without at least a handful of 'my' Beatles songs.
