Look at the ages, and, by the pictures shown, the social status, of the perpetrators. These people have most likely been raised in poverty, where there has been a historical lack of parenting skills and education.

We need to help these people rise out of their circumstances, not wag our fingers at their unfortunate upbringings that led them to take these actions.

Agreed.

This again brings up the dichotomy created by those who think government's job is to protect us from ourselves:  they are more than happy to require driver's licenses, business licenses, manufacturing licenses, gun licenses etc. ad nauseum, but would never consider that same logic when it comes to parenting.

I'm not advocating it - even tho cases like those you listed cry out for it - I'm just pointing out what I consider a glaring contradiction in the general liberal position.

Some people should not be parents.

Parents arrested after mom throws infant into snowbank

By Will Ashenmacher, St. Paul Pioneer Press

A baby remains hospitalized after a domestic dispute between her parents left her exposed to life-threatening conditions Saturday morning wearing nothing but a t-shirt and blanket.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. Bill Palmer the baby's mother, 21-year-old Ashley Renee Couch, and father, Deontae Thurmond, have been arrested. Couch was arrested on suspicion of child abuse. The baby's father was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault. Thurmond's age was not known as of Saturday afternoon, nor were Couch and Thurmond's hometowns.

Palmer said a witness called 911 after seeing Couch throw the month-old baby into a snowbank. The witness retrieved the baby, but Couch took the infant back from the witness even as the witness was on the phone with the police. Palmer estimates the baby was in the snow bank for less than a minute.

Still, the temperature was about 16 degrees with a wind chill of close to zero Saturday morning. When the baby was brought to Hennepin County Medical Center, she had a core temperature of 95 degrees and her injuries were considered life-threatening. The baby responded well to treatment, but was still in the emergency room as of Saturday night.

The area in which the disturbance occurred was quiet Saturday evening. A woman who gave her name only as Star said she had lived in the area her whole life and had never heard of anything similar happening before.

"That's just sick," she said. "If you can't take care of your baby, take it to Child Protective Services or something."

5-month-old fatally stabbed by teen father

PALMDALE, Calif (CBS News). - A 17-year-old father was fatally shot by sheriff's deputies in northern Los Angeles County Tuesday, after he had abducted and stabbed his 5-month-old son to death.

Christopher Earl Glass picked up his 5-month-old son from a relative's home and then drove to the home of the child's mother in Palmdale, reported CBS station KCBS. Glass and the mother got into an argument, and in the heat of the argument Glass drove away with the boy still in the car, according to the child-abduction alert issued.

Glass then allegedly sent a text message to the boy's mother, in which he threatened to stab their son, according to the alert.

A chase ensued. KCBS footage from the scene showed Glass' white SUV crash into a structure, possibly near a Metrolink station.

After the crash Glass tried to flee on foot, leading the police to engage their weapons, said deputies.

Glass tried to break into various houses around the area, police told KCBS. According to reports, the deputies opened fire. They followed him inside and another round of shooting occurred, killing the teen.

Officials raced back to Glass' SUV where they found the baby had been stabbed. They rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late. The infant was pronounced dead.

Boy, 3, found dead in oven; mother charged

GREENVILLE, Miss., March 3 (UPI) — A Mississippi woman was charged in the death of her 3-year-old son police said they found stuffed in an electric oven.

Greenville, Miss., Police Chief Freddie Cannon said Terrie A. Robinson, 24, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger reported.

Washington County Coroner Methel Johnson said police found the body of Tristan Robinson had been burned, but an autopsy would be conducted to determine whether the boy died before or after being put into the oven. He said the child's body was still warm when police extracted him.

"This is a really sad moment for me. I've seen a lot of things, but this is one that will stick in my memory for a long, long time," Johnson said.

Police were called to the apartment complex on an unknown trouble call, the Greenville Delta Democrat Times said.

Johnson said police placed a girl found in the home with the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

Robinson's twin sister, Sherrie Robinson, told WXVT-TV, Greenville, people should refrain from judging her sister until all facts are known.

"She was a great parent, a good person. We don't know what's wrong. We don't know what happened," Sherrie Robinson said. "Do not sit there and call her a bad mom 'cause that's not what she is."

A 21 Century stupid kid trick that you should watch out for. Kids are spraying their skin with Axe body spray and starting it on fire.

To be honest, we used to do the same thing with hairspray on our dorm floor and lighting it, so this is just a new version, so parents beware, if you see your kids doing this.

This may be too sweet for some, but it reminded me of something really important:  Having the opportunity to be mother to my sons (23 and 17) is definitely the best thing that ever happened to me.  I became who I am by trying to figure out how to do my best for them.  I feel very lucky.
