What? I thought what really counted was the cables. Spun using a combination of pure gold and spider silk, then hand-woven by Nepali monks using a proprietary weave to reduce cross-talk, with quadruple shielding made from a limited run of copper-platinum-alloy wire. Each cable is terminated with pure tantalum contacts, soldered by Guatemalan virgins in a sterile environment to minimize frequency-robbing contamination. You're telling me that doesn't count? Damn it.

Good to know. I was always leary of Onkyo, don't have any reason to be, but just was. Spent a lot of time on homework for this purchase. We went 2 weeks without any music other than puter speakers. Its got enough forward compatibilty to keep me going for years. Already 3D video capable without any modules. Can be updated periodically by direct downloads from the factory. Can't wait to hear what RP sounds like with a direct connection. Its going to take me awhile to get into that aspect of the receiver.

I just had to replace my 20 yo Pioneer receiver due to age and lightning.
Having very limited funds, I turned to my favorite outlet, Crutchfield. Granted, they don't carry much in the way of audiophile material, but they now have a 60 day tryout no questions asked period for equipment.
Ended up with an Onkyo TX-NR609 AV receiver for a very reasonable price. Its THX certified so the specs are a hair better than their non THX rigs.  I'm going to keep it. Has USB for direct connection to a puter and Internet streaming playback via ethernet connection. Its overkill for listening in 3.1 but as long as it doesn't fizzle out anytime soon I will be happy.

Onkyo's always a solid brand. Another good site for audio deals is accessories4less.com, although their inventory seems a bit lean lately. They did have your unit for $339. Factory reconditioned, but I have no problem buying those types of units, as they are usually thoroughly tested before being released again. Since this site is an authorized dealer of all the brands they sell, products come with factory warranties. Bought my Kef XQ10s at this site, for 50% off retail.

If I had to buy a sub right now I would seriously consider Hsu. I'd take a drive over to SVS to audition their newer models but Hsu would be in the running.
Yes, HSU has a great rep as well...I just dont like buying things I cant audition with the rest of my setup (I think Hsu has a money back trial period?). JL has a nice sub series out...sounded very impressive. But, I was advised against a purchase as the sub models are not very reliable. I also would recommend getting an outboard DAC for your sooundbridge...can really enhance the sound of streaming audio like RP. Check out audiogon.com for a nice used audio market. I'm using a Squeezebox, not a soundbridge.

How about your B&W's? I have a friend that loves his.
Personnel changes are usually not a good thing. I was considering one of their subs, but was never able to find a way to audition, so went with the Velodyne when my local shop had it up for sale at a good discount(was previously a demo unit). The 805s are a great monitor, but originally were a bit bright...however, the bel canto really resolved that issue. Looking forward to testing out the Bryston BDA1. I picked up the DM 640s, which had a blown tweeter, used about a year ago, as well as the Adcom...fixed the tweeter, but the DM 640s suffer the same issue as being bright...but again, using a Bel Canto adjusted the sound very nicely. Upstairs: Bose AM3's (painted to match the wall) streamed through a Soundbridge Downstairs: Bose 401's in the front; Yamaha sub; wall mounted rears (angled correctly of course ![{#Cheesygrin} {#Cheesygrin}](scripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/icon_cheesygrin.gif) ) all balanced with an old-school Radio Shack sound meter (Somewhat) Portable: Milwaukee boom box and a 6' 1/8th to 1/8th extension cord to the PC to cover the side yard Update: And now a Logitech Squeezbox in the kitchen. (Maybe I should have posted this in the "Things that sound dirty but aren't ![{#Lol} {#Lol}](scripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/icon_lol.gif) )

Those old receivers are great. I pretty much use the old Sony and my homemade speakers just for RP (and some streaming TV). Sounds great.
