The system likes .png files just fine, so rename it something (or not) and upload it. You don't need to put it on flickr, you can upload to the wiki from your computer. The system will rename it something useless so don't bother renaming it on your machine unless you want to. Hey. I just sneezed 8 times. Wiki that.

It would be nice to be able to include screen shots in the wiki.  Anyone have suggestions for tools to do that?  Ideally I'd like to be able to select just part of the screen and clip that.

(I'm running XP, but suggestions for other platforms would be good.)

Hi, everyone.

Several people over the years have suggested that a Radio Paradise wiki would be useful.  I've thought the same thing, and so have created "RP Wiki" at: http://sites.google.com/site/rpwiki/

A wiki is a web site that is built and maintained by group of contributors, as a collaborative effort.  Wikipedia is perhaps the most famous of wikis: anyone can create and modify informative articles about the world.

The RP Wiki is intended to be a listener-created reference site for RP.  The idea is that when people ask a question that someone else has already answered, we can direct them to a help page in the wiki.  Or, even better, they can go to the wiki first to see if the info they need is already available.

If someone posts a question about something which isn't in the wiki, they'll get answered in the forums, just as they are now.  If the person who posts an answer is also an RP Wiki contributor, she can create a new help page with the answer.

Everyone can read the RP Wiki; no registration is required. 

If you'd like to be a contributor you'll need to be registered — send me a PM with your Google id or email address and I'll send you an invitation. Supposedly you do not need a Google id, although life will be simpler if you have one. Your mileage may vary: some folks report they are able to use a non-Google address, others can't.

(Unlike Wikipedia, the RP Wiki requires you to be registered before you can contribute.  This is an as-time-available thing for me, and I don't want to have to chase spammers and the like.)

Please be very aware that the RP Wiki has no affiliation with Radio Paradise, and no one at RP is responsible for anything in the wiki.  You (that is to say, contributors to the wiki) are responsible. This is a community-created reference site.

So, how can you help?

• If you've ever posted something about how to use the site, or about how it works, or whatever, create a page in the wiki about it. This include postings to the various FAQ threads here in the RP forums. For example, there are currently articles about how to create an avatar, how to capture the stream in Linux, etc.
  


• If you've ever used a how-to that someone else posted, and had to change it somewhat to get it to work for you, modify or create a page about it.

Suggested guidelines:

• If there is an official RP web page (not a forum or journal page) about a topic, don't duplicate that in the wiki.  Instead, provide a link to the RP page.  RP pages should be assumed to be the authoritative reference.


• If there is a posting in a thread that you think will be useful, go ahead and create a wiki page with the information.  Forum threads "disappear" from consciousness and a wiki page can be considered to be more "permanent".
  


• If you are ready to post a new page, first search the wiki to see if there's a page about your topic already.  If so, consider adding your new stuff there rather than creating a new page.


• Try not to "own" anything you add to the wiki. Since this is a collaboration it's possible/likely other folk will be modifying or adding to "your" page.


• If you've solved an RP-related problem or question, create a wiki page. Don't say "someone should create a page about xyz"; do it yourself or it won't get done.
  


• Don't worry too much about presentation or polish. Wiki's are about information more than anything else.


• The wiki is a reference site, not a bug report or RP discussion site.  If you have comments or complaints about RP stuff (new forum software? ), keep them in the RP forums.


• References to real names, and possibly even RP names, should be omitted.  NOTE: Contributors will be identified by name in the "Recent site activity" list. This is how Google Sites work. See the RP Wiki front page for more information.

Although I'm the owner of the wiki for management purposes, I'm really just another contributor. I don't know everything there is to know about RP, or music players, or photo posting, or whatever — I need the wiki reference just as much as anyone else!
