I didn't know that, and I didn't think there was much I didn't know about Olivier. Olivier seems like he would have been too old to play Humbert, though he was only 2 years older than Mason.

A former bf read an article with an interview with Jeremy Irons—when he played the same character in the remake. He had a really hard time with some of the love scenes and didn't think he could do it. The little actress who played Lolita came and sat on his lap, looked at him earnestly, and said, "We can get through this. It'll be okay." That was kind of amazing, her wisdom and professionalism.
