Walnut is awesome. I have a black walnut tree in the backyard and 2 tree guys have offered to remove it for free. It's a mess in the fall... but I'd miss it.

Same. Years ago, at a different house, one of the hurricanes that season brought one down and a guy removed it for the lumber. Black walnut is fairly common here. It's pretty valuable slabbed and kiln dried.
Somehow squirrels eat those things. The shells are as hard as rock.
That piece has some seriously crazy grain going on.

My mother made pound cakes every Christmas, and would put black walnut in some of the loaves. I know many people don't like it, but I love it in pound cake. And I've got some Black Walnut Bitters that make an awesome Manhattan.
