It's the time of the season
When you think about leavin', oh, oh

I knew that you would
I knew that you would

In the season of strangers
When we were in danger, oh-oh

I reached out to you like you knew that I would
Like you knew that I would

It's a season of change
And if you feel strange
It's probably good

In the year of the rabbit
I picked up the habit of waiting on you

In the year of the snake, I made a clean break
And tried something new

I fly in my Aerostar
I picked up a new scar
I tried to be good
And I'm a real boy, my heart's full of love
It's not made out of wood
So do what's true, don't do what you should
It's a season of change
And if you feel strange
It's probably good

Season of change
If you feel strange
It's probably good

Season of change
If you feel strange
It's probably good

Let your heart break
Let the earth quake
Let the stars of Texas fall in the lake
Just do what's true
You ain't gotta be fake

Let the fire blaze
Let the light change
Let the heavenly body fall out of phase
It's a new age
Don't do what you should
It's a season of change
And if you feel strange
It's probably good

Season of change
If you feel strange
It's probably good

Season of change
If you feel strange
It's probably good

It's the year of the snake
So let your heart break

It's the year of the snake
So let your heart break

It's the year of the snake
So let your heart break

They were one of my favourites for a long time. Their early albums are fantastic. Sadly I find it hard to overlook the sexual allegations of Win Butler and find myself not enjoying their output the same anymore. The wind has been knocked out of their sails, musically and spiritually, I believe.

Sorry that happened to you but I get it; the noise of those allegations was loud. I usually try to refrain from reading too much about musicians; what I hear in their music is often at odds with who they are as people (they never live up to the pedestal I tend to put them on). But this time I read a lot about these "sexual allegations" and now very much wish I hadn't bothered. I'm not getting into the details but in my reading it was all a big nothing-burger with nothing illegal and absolutely no sexual assault, etc. And it's too bad we got to the point in our media world where whatever did happen between these women and Win had to become news that anybody would want to consume (and that I did consume, much to my regret). And it's too bad that a whole lot of people chose to cancel the guy and the band over it all. That's their choice and their right, obviously, but it doesn't change my opinion that it's a bummer that it exists in our world. It reaffirms my goal of avoiding reading too much about musicians (I'm not talking about sticking my head in the sand; I'm talking about deep dives, which this whole sexual accusation thing definitely is).

And on that note, I don't disagree that some of the wind has been knocked out of AF's sails; I'm not sure I like this album as a whole, or the last few for that matter. But I've heard this song 3-4 times now and it's growing on me. This play I found myself really liking it, and really happy to be hearing it. I might need to go back to the album for a few listens now.

Also enjoying what Bill is doing with this Canadian playlist: Neil Young, Be Good Tanyas, Daniel Lanois, Arcade Fire :)

So much new music on RP this month!

Amazing 🤩  !!!

Really digging this new album. It's thematic, layered, and has a depth that was missing on their last album (or two). I only wish it was longer (clocking in at only like 43 minutes).

And FYI - it IS the Year of the (Wood) Snake, per the Chinese Zodiac.
This is new and different for Arcade Fire. To quote Groundhog Day, “different is good”.
This is not easy listening music.
But that's why its good. Complex & confusing. I need some time to fully digest it.
That was a lot. Honestly looking forward to hearing it again and getting to know it.
