Every school of music has some compositions that are thought of as standards, ones that most everyone knows.   They can be used as common ground for jamming or as an homage.   Maybe they're just a part of the repitition that's a part of music.

Very well stated.  This version is a GREAT HOMAGE!

...Screamin' Jay Hawkins (original composer 1956),  Nina Simone,  CCR,  Annie Lennox,  Jessie Cook, Brian Ferry,  The Crazy World of Arthur Brown,  Manfred Mann,  Joe Cocker,    ...and the list goes on!!!
it brought me "since I've been loving you" from Led Zeppellin to my mind
and that is not a little thing!

This is the first time I've heard of Samantha Fish, but I like this song! Best female blues guitarist/singer since Susan Tedeschi?

not even trying to be comprehensive here, but I nominate Elizabeth Cotton and Bonnie Raitt for that pantheon.

This is the second time you've posted in this thread saying the same thing... we read you the first time... unfortunately.

I guess you don't realize how many songs that you probably like, weren't written by the musician performing it. It's only called a cover when someone else performed it first, and performing it first doesn't necessarily mean it's the best version of the song, it's just the one you're used to.

And covers are wrong because ______.  Go ahead. Fill in that blank.

Personally I'd much rather hear a player with her talent take on a familiar composition like this than to offer up a second-rate original.  I can think of several really great players who waste their talent on their original songs when they could be elevating someone else's good song to new heights or offering a fresh take on it.

Sad there are so many covers. Nothing is original anymore it seems
Wow 🤩
Many YouTube videos of this excellent guitarist.

I had previously rated this a 9/10. Hearing it again, 10/10.

What you said!  This is a surpassingly excellent rendition and I for one am glad it is getting airplay here.

Original’s please!!!!!!
Great version, nice guitar work. Check out Sue Foley for another great female blues guitarist/singer.
Amazing voice and guitar ability.  Nice to know that she hails from my hometown, Kansas City Missouri.  Definitely would like to hear more of her songs on RP.
Samantha opened for Buddy Guy at his Damn Right Farewell tour and stayed onstage with him for most of the killer show at Wolf Trap in VA. No better endorsement than that.
I don't get mad for Janis Joplin, but I hear a pleasant Joplin-like mood. Great rendition
The ONLY cover i like of the MANY our curators have bern playing. JMHO
the fish put a smell on you
She's great live as well!!!!

Samantha Fish is a boss. I've never heard a better version of this.
If you have a chance to see her live, go and enjoy!
ohhhh WOW incredible song
Well hell, that was devastating! Please sir may I have another.
so pleased that I've got tickets to see Samantha at Rock City Nottingham 🇬🇧....awesome talent ❤️

Get a clue.  Her vocal chops and stage presence are as good as her guitar. Just watched her open for and play with Buddy Guy on his damn right farewell tour.  She brought down the house at Wolf Trap in VA.
Hearing Samantha on RP is wonderful! We have been listening to her for years and were waiting for her arrival. Well done!
great version, except the mixing/volume problems! Solid 7.
[edit] It was helpful to check out some versions on YouTube.
She's pretty awesome... I think she owns this song now!
It's a good cover. I'd like to hear some original stuff. She rips on that guitar.
Samantha Fish is every bit as good live. If you get the chance, go see her.  A boss.
I saw her at the Lincoln Theater here in Raleigh what, 9 or 10 years ago? Phenom. Glad to see she's out there killing it.

look up stuff she did with Steve Miller when she opened for him recently.  Very cool
Nice guitar playing and that's about it.
Just saw this amazing woman recently. Thank you pop radio station that was giving the tickets away. I was the only caller!

If I had know she was going to be in the area, I would have gladly bought a ticket.

Nominated for a '24 Grammy, would be nice to see her break through the muck.
#She Too
Samantha lets her guitar cry the blues to the point just before, just a half a degree before, it melts in her hands.
That Fish will need some water before she burns up too.
This woman friggin smokes. Good lord... her music hits you in the gut like a mule kick.
I'm so glad I got to see her JAM at some great shows around here in recent years...and can't wait till next time! What a fiery, talented gal -- she really brings it!

Outstanding.
Solid feel for the blues. I had just fell down her YouTube rabbit hole yesterday!!
OMG!!
Love it!!!!

I Agree!! Superb contralto voice,  stellar guitar player!
She'll be in Syracuse at our Blues Fest in June!
The Samantha Fish stuff I've heard on Radio Paradise convinces me that this girl is the real deal!
The female Walter Trout.
Whow, never heard bevor. Great!
If this tugs at my soul, it gets an 8….this RIPS!
wow !
WOWZA!  Hope my library has the disc.
GREAT VOICE & GUITAR PLAYING!  Thanx RP!  I would love to hear hear her do a an homage to AMY Winehouse!
Nice hearing SF on RP. I used to see her at a joint a couple miles from the house, at Wed night blues jams. Played well beyond her years (she would have been in her mid-20s). It wasn't hard to predict that her talent would go beyond the local scene.
Instant 8 for me, that's some smoking guitar!
girl can play!!!

Wow! I initially thought this was Beth Hart, but then it sounded so much more genuine. Then it really started to smoke and had to get up from the easel and see who this was.  Wow!
Love her guitar playing on this and other songs, love her voice too.  But not a big fan of the vocal arrangement on this version of one of my favorite songs.
Why is this the only song from Samantha Fish on RP?  More variety please...

Warnings like that are almost always false positives. There's nothing wrong with her site.
Wow.  Just flat Wow!
Samantha and Beth Hart would be a killer duo.
YOWZAS! chills..

So--a younger Bonnie Raitt--OK by me, but a tall bar. Saw Bonnie last summer at Red Rocks, for probably the 6th time, and she still rocks.
Beautiful version. Jeff Beck would be proud
Wow!
What a great cover, she nails it!
It's great to hear you finally playing Samantha Fish. Love it.
She's a killer songwriter, too! Check out her tune "Daughters".
This is the first time I've heard of Samantha Fish, but I like this song! Best female blues guitarist/singer since Susan Tedeschi?
Another artist I would never have found if i did not stop listening to commercial music radio LLRP
Idunno. meh.

Nothing novel here to me. I look for the ‘novel’ in a cover of a classic.

She certainly can sing and play that axe. So, yes, an accomplished musician — like so very many others.  I suppose I need to hear more of her own stuff before — or if — I rave about her.
This one gets a 5+. Or maybe I’m just in one-a my ‘Non-Bluesy’ moods. ;-}
Good but not as good as CCR and screaming Jay Hawkins still a strong 7
Ooh!  Some Sam Fish!  Nice!

First time I've heard her on RP; usually only get that with my semi-regular blues fix on Nuthin But the Blues on KJZZ (weekends, when there's no football for me to watch...) or Ann the Raven's blues, Sunday nights on KCSN.

Not interested in the "hot chick" bit; the song, playing and singing get a 7 from me.
Lovely!

Wow! Must be the 1st, only because this is 1st time in B & R's rotation for this one! What a wonderful spin this young lady puts into her version of this song! More Ms. Fish, please! Lol
