For other folks it just drags on
Some folks like the taste of smokey whiskey
Others figure tea is too strong
Well, I'm the type of guy who wants to right down the middle
I don't like all this bouncing back and forth
Me, I want to live with my feet in Dixie
And my head in the cool blue North
It ain't nothing but a breeze in a small suburban garden
Not a single neighbor knows our name
I know the woman wishes we would move somewhere
Where the houses aren't all the same
Jesse, I wish you would take me where the grass is greener
I really couldn't say where it may be
Oh, some place high on a mountain top
Or down by the deep blue sea
And there we'll do just as we please
It ain't nothing but a breeze
One day I'll be old gray grandpa
All the pretty girls will call me "Sir"
Now, where they're asking me how things are
Soon they'll ask me how things were
Well, I don't mind being an old gray grandpa
If you'll be my gray grandma
But I suggest we go have our milk and cookies
In the shade of the old paw-paw
There we'll do just as we please
It ain't nothing but a breeze
Life is much too short for some folks
For other folks it just drags on
Some folks like the taste of smokey whiskey
Others figure tea is too strong
Well, I'm the type of guy who wants to right down the middle
I don't like all this bouncing back and forth
Me, I want to live with my feet in Dixie
And my head in the cool blue North
Oh me, I want to live with my feet in Dixie
And my head in the cool blue North, yeah, yeah
I'm somewhat surprised by the low avg rating on this sweet gentle tune, currently @ 5.9? I'm gonna have to up my 7 to an 8 to try to get this one up to a 6....Long Live RP!!
Mine and others' efforts seem to have helped; we're at 6.2 overall average now 2ish years later. LLRP!!

Wow! Okay so I remember hearing Twigs and seeds probably 30 years ago on local radio station and thought it was funny as heck... but could never find anything more about who recorded it. I seem to recall a lazy internet search years ago even and still nothing.
Then I'm reading comments here on the best musical place on the planet and low and behold.. a reference to Twigs and seeds! I did a quick search and found a Youtube of Jesse singing the song that has stuck in my head these long decades.
RP is such a cool damn thing. Once again, thanks Bill (and you too WonderLizard), you rock on many levels.
Oh and here's that youtube clip...

Jesse is the real thing and he could do it all: write great lyrics and music, play great guitar, and sing so sublimely it makes you weep.
He is the musicians' musician. Saw him so many times in Montreal and Ottawa. Never a false note or word, I told him after the last Ottawa concert. I miss him viscerally.
Okay, this is bizarre. nagsheadlocal posted the above on April 7, 2014. Jesse didn't pass away until April 11th.
Still, I saw Jesse on the same tour in San Franciso, and—yep—the encore was "Twigs and Seeds" and "Rhumba Man." The women went wild.

There is that little "edit" button up there.
This is a very nice tune. Love his voice.
Check out his album Gentleman of Leisure

The wonderful Jesse Winchester passed away Friday, April 11, 2014. He died peacefully in his sleep, at home, after fighting bladder cancer. He was 69 years old.
Thank you all for your lovely notes of condolence. Many of you have expressed an interest in donations, so we have come up with some suggestions of things Jesse would love:
Plant an ornamental cherry blossom tree in his memory—he loved these; or, build a simple wooden bench for public or personal use and place it in a pretty spot. Jesse wanted a simple wooden bench for our home, so perhaps there could be other "Jesse Benches" out there; or, donate to your favorite charity.
Jesse was a kind and gracious man who enjoyed simple pleasures. We hope this helps inspire you. Pictures would be fun to see. . .
Fondly,
The Winchester Family
Aw, geez. He had a gentleness about him that radiated whenever he performed. We are poorer for his absence.

LOL, I checked the playlist to see if this was Jimmy Buffet.
Right now, after a long day, it actually sits quite well with me.
