Standin' in the runway
Wavin' at the plane
There goes everything you own
You called home collect
And they didn't know your name
Starin' at the telephone
You thought he was a doctor
Now he says he's not
But the noices seem to tell for sure
And according to the symptoms
It isn't all you got
A shame they haven't found a cure
Didn't know the reason
You start to feel the rub
You know it isn't easy
Well, welcome to the club
Well, you thought they'd take it lightly
They're actin' kinda rash
Caught you in a loadin' zone
So they smile very politely
Relieved you of your cash
Suddenly you're all alone
You play the double agent
You bug eachother's phone
You got the place surrounded
There ain't nobody home
It's gettin' hard to please 'em
You start to feel the rub
You know it isn't easy
Well, welcome to the club
Come on and join us in the club

Not THAT deep - this got tons of FM rock radio airplay in my neck of the woods back in the day!
Lovely deep cut from JW. So What is an underappreciated masterpiece. His solo work far outstrips his work with the Eagles, although the Eagles probably pay better. ;-)

Columbia Record club, first cheque I ever wrote, and first (thankfully last) that I ever bounced.....
This was one of my first albums - remember Columbia House Record Club? Like 12 records for $1, and you only have to buy 9 more (at regular club prices). I love this record!

Play 'The Bomber', or don't play Joe Walsh.
Just kidding.
Not Kidding.
His work on the Hotel Cali alum made up for the yawny crap he'd done previously, like this song here, but it WAS the Eagles.
Oh well.
Like I said -
Play The Bomber

I Saw Joe Walsh and Kenny Wayne Shepherd in Cleveland. What an excellent show!!
Keep spreading the word, and keep doing it "One Day At a Time".
Been working for me for 17 years...
Life has been good, So Far.

did you use your actual name? I knew people who did the "Tape a penny" and lie bit to BMG.

All true!
Love the Joe.
Great sense of humor.
Pokes fun at himself.
He can play a mean guitar.
And has some great songs out there.
Especially ones like this that aren't played to death.

Wow! I've never heard this one before, and I really dig it! And I just read all 24 comments here preceding mine... I never knew that Joe lost a young daughter in the early 70s. Discovering new (to me) music, and new facts that add perspective to my appreciation... so many reasons why I love RP.
One of my first albums - still great to hear on occasion...
Such a great album...lotsa good material...played it to death

BillG makes a joke, maybe?
Is that album info correct? The album cover says 'So What' and this is the lead track on that album, so why does it say 'Look What I Did!'?

Never was a big Eagles fan, but Joe Walsh solo or James Gang - now that's something else! Maybe because he comes out more front and center on those efforts.

I would say that is probably true given his on again off again addiction problems. I had no idea that tragedy had occurred in his life. I can understand things better now. Thanks for the factoid.
This still sounds good, can still surprise me with its utter uniqueness that is pure Joe. Actually, he had many Eagles along with him on this album's material. A special last song was tacked onto this record before its final release. I was just in North Boulder Park the other day, looking at the drinking fountain, fed by snowmelt from wonderful Arapahoe Glacier and Indian Peaks, that is dedicated there to Joe's young daughter, Emma. She died April 1 of the year this was released, in a car crash at 9th and Spruce on the way to her nearby day care, just down the street from where the new Walsh family lived here in Boulder. They'd spent '72 up in Nederland, and most of '73 at Caribou Studio, up by Eldora. Sadly, ironically, Joe was due home that night after being away in LA getting the record done. His ex-wife Stephany said that they never recovered from the tragedy. Joe told Stevie Nicks he felt lost for years, but somehow rocked on.

No reason to be sorry.
Sorry folks, but I think the guitar playing on this song is EXTRAORDINARY!!
No reason to be sorry.
I enjoy this LP from side to side....diggin the outro
Joe Walsh get an automatic "9" just for being cool. He used to play for us regularly, here in Austin, until all the hipsters started showing up. Frey and Henley are so lucky that Joe puts up with their arrogant crap.
Most excellent (no wait, Outstanding!)
Thanks Joe!
Love the Joe.
Especially the non hits!

Still a club member.
Joe for president !
Whoah, it's jammin' Joe! Takes me back to endless summers full of broken hearts, disillusionment, and dissolution (kinda like this one).
