When you wait and you don't know what to do
Weather or not I will stay here with you
Something's got into the way that light...
The light told the lighter to light off the light
Southern Winds, Southern Winds

We were young, lying eyes in the sun
And tactic foreigns together may run.
But then I cry, then I'll have to explain
All of my colors that are going to grey.
Southern Winds, Southern Winds.

And where do the boats all go?
When they're out on the Wasteland alone.

So I'll wait till you come to my side
Carried along by an old rusty tide.
Living and loving can turn out strange
So don't let them burry, you're living their way
Southern Winds, Southern Winds.

Indeed!
I love the seabird cries at the end. A wonderfully evocative song of the sea :)
Any time I see the word Guillemot now, the immediate mental connection is Les Barker.
Perhaps too obscure?

Yeah although I was thinking Moody Blues at first...
For me it is a extention to Crosby, Stills & Nash - Southern Cross
A bit jealous - I wish I was named Aristazabal....
Nice... kind of a throwback to some of the more experimental early/mid 1970s prog rock.

Fyfe Dangerfield's previous band played at my friend's birthday party and I liked the music so much I made a point of following his progress - Guillemots' first album is really wonderful; I'd urge you to check it out.

Big time.  This straight up sounds like Guinnevere, and I'm not mad about it.
I hear Christine McVie - this tune sounds like it came off an old Fleetwood Mac song

Disagree, but too funny!  Kudos.

Yes - The opening sounds like Wooden Ships
One of those tracks that I clearly don't 'get'...lots of positive comments and all I can think is 'what am I missing here'...

And with another listen...the disharmonies that poke up here and there are really jarring...
I'm always a sucker for this kind of mystical sounding song, and it can be hard to do well. The arpeggios repeat like a mantra. The chord resolution takes you places. The atmosphere is great.

NDIS Exercise for Disabilities
Sorta CSN crossed with something Swedish. This band's got a rich depth that can be mesmerizing. In the right mood.
Quirky as hell. Certainly eclectic!!

Thanks again

Album cover too

8->9 cause im in a lovey dovey mood

By the way i have to say you sure can handle a laptop for a dog
Beautiful!
Where do all the boats go? Well, that's an easy one. Just Google Hurricane Hugo ('89). You'll see where they all went. Up all them creeks 'til they got to Virginia just about.
Has sort of a CSN vibe to it.

I was thinking Moody Blues when this started...Yes that singing is a bit annoying.
Rainy Day Tune
say what you will, one of those uniquely ethereal and timeless pieces

This somehow reminds me of the theme song from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (or Kaze no Tani no Nausika for the Japanese).
I've been on Google Images and looked for "guillemots", and I've got to say that the band looks nowt like the birds:

Guillemot family

Still, seabirds can't grow beards. I do rather like the sound of this song and it may well grow on me. The slightly off timing and seeming amateurishness only adds to its quirky charm. 7 from the seabird-loving Nottingham jury.

The vocals do get pretty irritating in parts but not enough to make me skip it; the instrumentation is interesting.
I once saw Les Barker do his mongrel poetry  (Mrs Akroyd had long since died), perhaps on his "Sex is better than Poetry Tour"  and, as I recall, it was titled Ode to a Guillemot. Laden with puns, non sequiturs and nonsense, it was scads better than this............drivel.
Boys, PLEASE.  This Bon Iver falsetto craze has gone on long enough.  Most of you suck at it, so just STOP, please!  And for the love of beer, don't try to hamonize.  I've heard cats fighting under my window that sounded better together!
Shame there's no kind of harmonising going on.  The vocals are annoying to my ears.
Either Canadian or Scottish, based on the band title?

I heard same right away...
Haunting and lovely at the same time.

Too late! I feel myself whirling down a pit into an alternate reality where anti-fashion is fashion. I love this dreamy song, mind, and the tweeters at the end add a nice sweet coda. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Really trippy cover but the voice creeps me out.
Simon & Garfunkel would turn in their graves.  If they were dead.

edit:  and so would Annie Lennox
Sound like a bunch of dirty hippies and I like 'em!
Very nice....never heard of them but like it!
Mellow as all get-out and in a really nice way.
Really nice song but the cover creeps me out.
nice....haunting... ambient.... want to hear more like this.... reminds me of group Rennaisance if they had a child who took up the banner
Whoa!  Exquisite!{#Heartkiss}
Most excellent!

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be slow-dancing buck ass naked all over the world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners...  we love this song...  it tweaks our nipples...  love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...
Quite likeable :)

Ye-ahhh...maybe an advert from Finland. In the middle of an endless winter. Just as the acid is kicking in and your TV screen is melting...

You and I ain't watchin' the same TV, Terry.

The instrumental reminds me of something from the Moody Blues--one of their gloomier songs.

No lie
yargh, the harmonies grate on my nerves. do NOT like this song at ALL.
I'm heading for Italy this afternoon, and got caught by this tune, just before to leave, ...I love it!

Especially that "Roman centurion" guy with the sneakers and purple socks.  Pretty good music; not as fond of the vocals, though.

absolutely love this song...

I really liked that.

marvelous...  love this song...

This is one of those songs that started off really irritatingly, to my ears, then really grew as it went along. I missed its passing when it finished. 7 from the entranced Nottingham jury.

I wonder if those are guillemot cries at the end?
Cover art is approaching maximum hipster factor.
Very pleasant
This is cool. I haven't heard from Guillemots since their "Trains to Brazil" seven years ago. Snatches remind me of Martin Denny's "exotica" stuff back in the 60s.
..it lulls, but not necessarily in a good way..maybe time will age it gracefully? (i'm dubious)..
yuck
8 I think. I just don't know any song that fits before or after this one. Very cool stuff.
Reminds me of washing machine adverts.

This song is soooo cool...  love it...
love the bass line but what's with the cover photo? Why do the head & hands of that bearded fellow make him look llike a giant among dwarfs?
I think it would work better as an instrumental.
A bit dull.
Not quite Fleet Foxes, who I would fit into this genre and who I think are awesome.
"...Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme..."

Lovely take on this medieval Yorkshire, UK folk song.

Yey. More ornithological jokes on RP! Personally I'm waiting for the Brown Boobies.

marvelous...  love this emotive melody...

Huh? I think the vocals are lovely. To each their own.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Ouch. . . 2. . . at best.

Update. . . 1.  Indulgent ill conceived twaddle.
