Bjork-ish.
Pretentious voice. Weak.
I much prefer the studio version, though I might have taken a different view if I'd watched Natasha live with my tongue hanging out {#Hearteyes}. She certainly has an active and fantastic imagination. 
One of the few songs I've heard on RP that really doesn't do well compared to  other songs played here.  It might fit in if you're listening to the album in private, but it just doesn't fly here. 
I am not musically trained at all, but this sounds like horrible nonsense to me.  Thankfully The Cure have just come on to remind me how things should be done.

I don't actually think you're correct here, alan. "out of key" is playing in the wrong key, which rarely happens. "Off key" is, according to my musician friends, the same as what you call "out of tune".

Interesting that you say that you expect singers to sing flat live unless they use pitch correction. Aren't these people supposed to be professional singers? Doesn't that include singing on key. I suppose in a very loud concert it might be hard to hear yourself.

In any case, I was very hard on the whole song in my previous post. I found it more listenable this time around.

The KCRW (live) shows of BFL are vary good..
Don't find the studio version very compelling, this even less so.
I like the Bat-girl, but this one's not doing it for me.

It seems to me that with a lot of these "off key" comments it's really the timbre of the singer's voice the commenter is taking issue with. Neil Young is a good example. A lot of people don't like his voice, but he generally sings "in tune," (except when he doesn't want to).

Saying his singing is "flat" (as David Foster once famously did) misses the mark, because he is usually hitting exactly the note he intended to hit. It's just he experiments with melodies and sings in a register that a lot of people find displeasing.

Same with Thom York. His voice may be nails on the chalkboard to you, but he's never "out of tune."

Her voice is strong enough, but she's so off key for most of the song it's painful. Love the studio version, though.
All this talk about her "weak voice" is rubbish, I've seen her live and she'd drown out a lot of male singers...Chris Martin being one, and she manages to sing in tune too unlike him.
This is nice alternative music!! But her voice needs coaching much more!! Its not loud enough for live performance! (Seen in the London live Show)

Once again Doc I have to take issue with you regarding a talented female artist. On this version she sounds great to me, and every review I've read of her live shows, raves about her voice. Here's an example:

Khan’s pipes are impressive and glorious live, with clarion power and a mystical, ageless weight. It seems she has the ability to summon her remarkable vocal range from the record to live performance, effortlessly nailing everything from the highs of “Glass” to the lows of “Trophy.”

I've heard much worse live performances.  At least she stays in pitch, mostly.  I have nothing to complain about with this track, although I'm used to the studio drum track, so I need to get used to this.

As I suspected, another studio angel with weak stage performance skills.  Maybe she'll develop a viable live voice but this is just bad especially compared to the studio version.

I agree, she's an angel.  The back-up singers are also angels.  I uploaded this one. : )   I'm glad Bill accepted it..  He didn't seem to hesitate. The cd comes with a dvd.  The footage on the dvd shows the band is mostly made up of girls...can you say "awesome"?  These women are amazing.  The instuments being played on this track are all mostly being played by women.  Those awesome drums you are hearing...played by a woman!  I love kickass music played and produced by women.

By the way, the dvd is a documentary of how the album was made, which shows live performances.  I freaking waited and preordered this baby.  As one can tell, I like it.

I think she's awesome. Definitely one of my favorite 2009 discoveries on RP.
XPN'S Live at World Cafe has an excellent live version of this song
She has a really weak voice delivery live. Shows how much her voice is augmented in the studio. Reminds me a bit of the late Sandy Denny, who sang live with much more emotion. Disappointing track.
