When you smile at me you bring me down
You betray your thoughts
All your prayers to naught
Now out of death you speak in tongues
And out of breath your work is done
And your dream absolve
And your path dissolve
And your dream absolve
And your path dissolve
Haven't heard this in a few years maybe, and had to fix my 6 rating by bumping it up to an 8. Mr. Wilson's music has grown on me a lot with RP's help. Long Live RP!!
I gave it an EIGHT, the 1st time I heard it!
My life is so much better with PT and SW in it.
I Agree. Same here!
Hate speech?
Anybody listen the latest SW album To the Bone?
I reckon it is excellent. He has in my opinion consistently hit it out of the park with The Raven, Hands Cannot Erase and now To the Bone.
I love love love The Raven, but can hardly listen to it without starting to cry.

Better hurry before Trump bans mail order from outside the USA.

Update, Feb. 2023: a "new edition" is now only $11.98, but the original 2009 version is $35.25, down a little. Wow.

?
I think not.
And I pray your work is done
It would be more fitting with the lines that precede it.
Hard but as it happens not impossible. Have seen the "new" line up live and they were flawless.
Could be that interest for Wilson concerts has grown since The Raven CD.
Anybody else pumped?
It is moody, repetetive and a bit boring.
But still, I love it.
I cannot even explain it to myself.
P.S.
This is my favourite road music these days. Always afraid of missing the exit.
i bought it and stayed up until 3 listening trying over
and over to decipher the words
could be any of these https://rohnbayesjourney.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/12/lyrics-i-think-i-heard.html
or maybe i need new speakers
Horstman,
I bought the PT solo sample CD. Wasn't sure I liked Steven Wilson's stuff that much on first listen.
This CD is more of an acquired taste. But I'm floored at how it grows with subsequent listens.
Westslope,
I will pick this up as well. Burningshed has On the Sunday of Life in CD digipack and it is the only album I have of theirs that is not on CD but rather mp3.
Steve tends to be a lot more experimental and daring on his solo stuff. Sometimes this works very well.

Bought this the day it was released without hearing a single song.
Ya gotta have faith brutha!
Do you think more of the tracks - other than the 2 RP plays - would be appropriate for RP? I'm trying to figure out why only this track and "HK" get played....
Good question. I haven't listened to the CD with that in mind. This CD keeps growing and is now competing more effectively for attention with The Incident.
I know the term "musical genius" gets bandied around constantly by legions of people, but I kind of have to agree with you on Steven Wilson
. From everything I have ever read about him (over the course of many years), he can't read music and doesn't even know the names of most of the chords that he is playing on his guitar. It's an instinctive thing with him (much like my brother and my son- give them any instrument and 6 hours and they will be able to play it pretty damned well).
According to Wikipedia (for whatever that's worth), he did take guitar lessons for a while when he was a s(prog). Still, pretty amazing when you consider how complex some of his compositions are.
Bought the CD.
Some of it is very Porcupine Treeish, some of it is rather ambient and introspective.
Got to have it if you love this band.

Turn off the lights, lie in the middle of the floor and sink into it. Awesome.
On the limited vinyl release, there is a different take of this song, with even more pronounced piano. I don't have it (just the cd), but Youtube it and you should be able to find it. It's entitled "Insurgentes - Mexico" or some-such.
Listen to these lectures by Nick Cave and you'll have the answer.

I also go the pre-order mp3s when they were first available. Burned them and the disc has been in my truck's cd player ever since. I even forgot the actual disc was one day going to arrive in the mail and when it did, what I nice surprise and the UK address threw me off. I remember looking at the address nd thinking "what the heck did I order in a mad drunken fit of late night web surfing?"
It's a Japanese instument called a Koto
I'm familiar with that sound, and now that you tell me....I hear it!! I thought it was a "regular" harp that had been muted or changed in some way. Definitely a Koto. Sublime song.
DAMN YOU, RP!
shades of Andreas Vollenweider?

I'm not familiar with Porcupine Tree, but I am really enjoying this recording.
What a lucky person you are! I recall when I first heard PT on RP and spent the next several years in PT-induced bliss. A nice size catalog and a bit of depth to the music make for a lot of listening pleasure. Have fun, and do report back!
He's done things on his own before (as Bass Communion and as himself via the Cover Version singles), but this is the first full solo album under his own name.
Now, if I could afford to, I'd have the retail version pre-ordered and I'd be listening to the 'tide-you-over-until-you-get-it' MP3's they give you. *starts saving her pennies* I'll end up having to get it in the store when it's officially out... if I can find it. *hopes for a New Year miracle* I'll have to make do with RP and SW's MySpace until then.
I got the CD and the bonus 5.1 for $14 with tax (and I live in NY-we're taxaholics) at BestBuy!
Bestbuy of all places. Unreal.
This CD is great. At first I was like "Oh well, another placated CD by Steven W." But after several dozen listens, this album is a gem. I really love it. Even more than Fear of Stoned Child Album.
Hi guys!!
The Birdie Song would hold up well to that overrated buncha tosh.
Had RP turned down as I focused on other things. But the voice was unmistakable.
For a first listen, I like it. Doesn't grab my attention like PT material but I find it very pleasant.

Disappointed... never seems to take off.... and we were hoping to be blown away!
Just got the CD at a local store in my travels and it is OK, just ok. A couple of tracks jumped out at me-might take more than the 2 listens I gave it to really form an opinion. First impression was disappointment.
please put me out of this guys misery.
There's good reason for that....
Well it is Steven Wilson, lead singer, songwriter, etc. of Porcupine Tree...

Pretty much everything this guy does is excellent.
+1
Steven Wilson is one talented individual. I'm new to PT and the many side projects those guys tend to take on.
Great stuff all-in-all. Mostly inspired work...
Tim
Cool! I can't wait to hear the whole thing.

I would like to know what commentary Wilson is attempting to make with the album title and cover.
A black shirt and a gas mask. I wonder.....
You can pre-order the 2 disc version of Insurgentes from Burning Shed. Official release date is 24th February (or wait until February and order it through Amazon)
If you pre-order, you also get sent a link to download the first CD - 100MB@256kbps. Just done this - listening to the album now!
No doubt it's those few who hate anything Porcupine Tree - give it some time, the average should be in the 7's in no time

Thanks for the tip and the URL. Couple things there look interesting.

I Agree! I like everything that Steve Wilson has done, except for his Yes re-mixes!
