I just had the same experience while increasing Springsteen's "Radio Nowhere" from 7 to 8.  I would suggest changing Most Excellent to Great to even out the big jump.

The first Springsteen album I listened to! I knew about Born in the USA and Born to Run, obviously but never paid that much attention to it, they were just FM hits to me.
Then someone gave me this record as a gift and I was blown away! 
Any track from this album brings me back to my room when I was 17. Love it!

Wow. As this started I thought, 'hey a rocker who sounds like Springsteen', but low and behold it's him! Bruce, for me has always been one of those admittedly influential artists that I never really cared for very much. This though is a very nice rockin' diversion. This just might be the first Springsteen album I buy.

You're right. I am only partially informed. Unfortunately I don't have a paycheck right now so buying substandard Bruce albums (compared to the old ones) is not a huge priority. I did buy Devils and Dust and was not terribly happy with that. I have every regular (not all live/compilation) album Bruce has made thus far. Sorry...give me Thunder Road, Spirit in the Night, or New York City Serenade any day over this song. However, you may notice I've updated my rating and posted a new comment. But this song will never be a 9 or a 10 for me.

Yeah, it is. If you get what the song is about the repetition (something that's kinda common in blues/pop/rock music, you may have noticed) is perfectly relevant. I've had the opposite reaction and the song has grown on me more and more. It's hardly the strongest song of his career (or even the album) but uninspired? Hardly.

You can say you don't get a good first impression or whatever, but you can't be as harsh as you're being when you admittedly are only half-informed at best. You say you're a huge Bruce fan. If that were true you'd buy the album and try to like it - something you obviously aren't doing now. Isn't the chance of a few really good songs from one of your favorite artists worth the risk of wasting 15 bucks? It always has been for me. But maybe that's just me.

I have to criticize your criticism. Don't assail the new album and then say, "I will not be buying this album". Huh? If you haven't bought it and listened to it thoroughly then you're not qualified to bash it. Good show in Toronto this week. The band is almost too big now (he seems to add another permanent E Streeter every tour) and the carnival thing at the beginning is unconvincing, but it's been effin years since I tingled at a concert (the shots in She's The One --- 20,000 arms in the air) and I personally have never felt a concrete building the size of the Air Canada Centre shake before (during Badlands). Up to his 70s/80s standard? Probably not. A better performer than just about anybody else? Absolutely. And, for what it's worth, I don't think this sounds like Jenny at all.

I don't listen to commercial radio anymore, so I don't really care if the Boss is playing there too. More power to him. I still like hearing him here, if its good. And this makes the cut.

I was hoping that maybe the pathetically overused, 4-chord structure was The Boss' way of satirizing the format and commenting on the degradation of quality music on the airwaves: I mean, the song's called "Radio Nowhere"... But I think I gave him too much credit.
