Will the light shine through
Under this broken roof
It's only rain that I feel
I've been wishing out the days
Oh, oh, oh come back
I have been planning out
All that I'd say to you
Since you slipped away
Know that I still remain true
I've been wishing out the days
Please say that if you hadn't gone now
I wouldnt have lost you another way
From wherever you are
Oh, oh, oh, oh oh come back
And these days they linger on
And in the night I've been waiting
For the real possibility that I may meet you in my dreams
I go to sleep
If I don't fall apart
Will my memory stay clear
So you had to go
And I had to remain here
But the strangest thing today
So far away and yet you feel so close
And I'm not gonna question it any other way
There must be an open door
For you uhh uhh uhh....to come back
And the days they linger on
And every night when I'm waiting
For the real possibility that I may meet you in my dreams
Sometimes you're there and you're talking back to me
Come the morning I can swear that you're next to me
And it's okay
It's ok
It's ok
Oh, I'll be here....come back, come back
Ahhhhh I'll be here...come back, come back
Ohhhh I'll be here...come back, come back
Whoooo whooo whooo whoo

funny how some voices are heard and enjoyed by some and despised by others. Is this to do with environment, experience or is it innate/visceral? I remember commenting on whiny voices the other day when I was feeling a bit cranky...nothing against the artists, it is simply sound that isn't received the same to my ears apparently.
I really enjoy Eddy Vedder, Natalie Merchant, Neil Young and Jay Farrar, to name a few; other listeners talk of shoving pens in their ears (!) to avoid hearing their voices. hahaha
Interesting.
I concur with all four you mention, and they're all so different from each other. What they DO have in common is a complete lack of whininess.

Interesting.
Too funny, but too true!
Well, it is like this, Eddie Vedders voice reacts to my brain like fingernails on a chalkboard or bunny screams while being murdered by my cat. It is quite simple really.
Are you sure ? You sound a little bit ambivalent about Vedder's voice there ...

wadaya kno...a JAM tune worth hearing....
no... this shit is great... just pure, total, and absolute rock and roll!
"This is dedicated to his best friend Johnny Ramone, who died in 2004. He always mentions him. "
So you have a problem with Ed's voice. Think it might only work when in a concert setting. Ok.
Couldn't disagree more. He has a wonderful, evocative and unique style.
Now I also appreciate sitting around the house on Saturday listening to Dylan, Waits, Young and Costello as well as say Bowie, Mercury and McCartney to name three almost universally agreed great singers.
So Ed ain't your thing. I love him.
I love all of those singers you named as well, Eddie Vedder still sucks balls.
You want perfect notes, perfect pitch,
exquisite enunciation and dulcet tones,
I suggest you go listen to the Three Tenors.
(I'm not knocking Grand Opera, I enjoy
it in its place, which is not on RP, IMHO.
Well, OK maybe "Un bel dì vedremo".)
Eddie Vedder delivers the tortured voice of lost love
perfectly and makes this song a rock 'n' roll classic!
Deserving of a repost

Compliment or insult?

hahahaha... and you know these people who are critical of his voice can't sing... how do you know this? Send me your address, I'll send you a couple of my CDs. Free.
I'm not the greatest vocalist, but I can sing.
Besides, one doesn't need to be a chef to dislike steak tartar.
Yeah, right! No thanks. Besides, one doesn't need to be a singer to know they already don't like someone else's tone!
hey ho let's go!
Many would say "they can't sing" Where would rock and roll be without them (and Eddie - who IMHO is a fantastic singer) - answer Pat Boone.
I never said he "couldn't sing" so your premise is wrong. I said I don't like his voice.
But to answer your question, I like just about everyone on your list.
seriously dude. what's with the peeps on rp saying eddie can't sing? Is it my hearing or theirs? Richest baritone on the planet and has no trouble whatsoever hitting any high note he attempts! And live as well! Perhaps Ashlee Simpson is more their taste, (oh yea, I highly doubt she can carry a note whatsoever) that's ok, though, us pj fans are more than fine without the haters!
Back at you orpheus - loving this tune and all PJ....

Yes, with the Band Pearl Jam and Mr. Edward Louis Severson III "Jerome Turner" is a dilemma, can go thus of the very good one to thus-thus, until the bad; good performance in this ocasion.
