In the merry month of May, from me home I started,
Left the girls of Tuam nearly broken hearted,
Saluted father dear, kissed me darling mother,
Drank a pint of beer, grief and tears to smother,
Off to reap the corn, leave where I was born,
Cut a stout black thorn to banish ghosts and goblins;
Brand new pair of brogues, rattling o'er the bogs
And fright'ning all the dogs on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three, four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
In Mullingar that night I rested limbs so weary,
Started by daylight next morning blithe and early,
Took a drop of pure to keep me heart from sinking;
Thats a Paddy's cure whene'er he's on drinking.
See the lassies smile, laughing all the while
At me curious style, 'twould set your heart a bubblin'
Asked me was I hired, wages I required,
I was nearly tired on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three, four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
In Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity
To be soon deprived a view of that fine city.
Decided to take a stroll, all among the quality;
Me bundle it was stole, all in a neat locality.
Something crossed me mind, when I looked behind,
No bundle could I find upon me stick a wobblin'
Enquiring after the rogue, said me Connaught brogue
Wasn't much in vogue on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three, four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
From there I got away, me spirits never failing,
Landed on the kay, as the ship was sailing.
The Captain at me roared, said that no room had he;
When I jumped aboard, a room was found for Paddy.
Down among the pigs, played some hearty rigs,
Danced some hearty jigs, the water round me bubbling;
Off the Holyhead wished that I was dead,
Or better for instead on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
The boys of Liverpool, when we safely landed,
Called meself a fool, could no longer stand it.
Blood began to boil, temper I was losing;
When old Erin's Isle they began abusing.
"Hurrah for all" says I, let me Shillelagh fly.
Galway boys were nigh knew I was a hobblin',
With a load "hurray!" joined in the affray.
soon we cleared the way for the rocky road to Dublin.

This sort of music always gives me anxiety.
the Dropkick Murphes meet the Pogues!
AAARRRRHHHHHHHHH
This sort of music always gives me anxiety.
The part of me that traces its roots back to County Clare whole-heartedly approves!
Ah heck, the part from Lower Saxony likes it as well!

This is in some wild time signature, right? 5/4? 9/8?
Irish Wall of Voodoo?
One kick ass song. If you can’t get drunk and dance to this dunno what would get ya going.
My 8 yr old son goes MAD for this.
I grew up listening to the Clancy Brothers, so I'm loving the evolution of traditional Irish music into the contemporary mainstream - Dropkick Murpheys, Pogues, etc. I saw DKM a few years ago in (the great city of) Lowell on St. Patty's, nuff said.
I'm not drunk enough right now to enjoy this.
The Dubs Rock.......
Very nice!
Given this song is now 25 years old, wouldn't that make these guys Middle-Aged Dubliners?
An Irish band from Los Angeles?
Their "Rocky Road" is I-5 into the San Francisco suburbs and Dublin, CA.

It’s a ripper! Makes me slam my mug every time-need more mugs! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!!!
This baby rocks, great way to get my deeply buried Irish blood awakened. Thank Ye
I like the rock bits but the rhythm was the best part of the song and this version has it just right to make it completely unsettling.
Lowest Common Denominator.
Makes me wish I was ere...
Irish influenced music is getting old & tired very soon.
So what just go with it and expand your horizons
I'm digging this rocked up version of "Rocky Road to Dublin!"
Fiddly diddly widdly ay.

At least a tool is useful. Your comment on the other hand.......ahhhh, forget about it.
Holy Jeezus I need another thank you!!! woo-hooo!
Highly irritating
Tommy Clancy and the Makem Brothers do a brilliant version that was used in the credits to Robert Downey Jr.'s "Sherlock Holmes."
I love this song! Surprised to hear met here! That's why I love RP!

terrrible!!
Exhausting
A real foot-tapper! Love it... Aye...
My heart beats in 6/8... Or, in this case, 9/8.

Nice, but I think I prefer the Pogues' penny whistle over these electric guitars.
There's only one Irish song it goes "Di-de-di-dee-diddly-di." It's also the one Appalacian, Gypsy, Sufi, etc. song and. 20,000 years of the same song is ENOUGH ALREADY!
Coooool!!!
Hell yeah! Perfect for May Day and Molotov cocktails!
Fun!!
Eclectic. And fabulous!!! Many's the night I have shouted myself hoarse 'singing' along to this and similar in the pubs of St. John's and Halifax...
This non-Irishman approves most emphatically! Brought my day back to life!

A little early, and I am at work, but I wish I could. This is rousing Irish fare. Plus, an interesting segue from the Pogues.
