Sun in the sky, you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me.
Yeah, it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, ooooooooh...
And I'm feelin' good.
Fish in the sea, you know how I feel
River runnin' free, you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me,
And I'm feelin' good
Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don't you know,
Butterflies all havin' fun, you know what I mean.
Sleep in peace when day is done: that's what I mean,
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me...
Stars when you shine, you know how I feel
Scent of the pine, you know how I feel
Yeah, freedom is mine, and I know how I feel:
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me
(scat)
And I'm feelin'... good.
I always thought 'Feeling Good' was written by Nina Simone, 'cause that was the version i knew, but no! as i found out when we did a cover of it in one of my old bands.
.
'Feeling Good' was written by English singer-songwriters Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the 1965 musical 'The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd' starring Cy Grant whose original version can be found at -

Thank You for the info.
It's to bad that this song is going to remind people of a COPD commercial that's running constantly on TV these days. I hope it was worth it for the estate to sell the rights for those commercials.
what is TV?

Just bringing this comment back to life from 8 years ago
(yea, maybe a bit self indulgent i know...)
Taking a comment completely out of context and then replying to the 180-degree-changed meaning is just plain wrong. The full statement DaidyBoy made was this:
Can we hear the Buble version, please, RP?
Ha. Just tricking. I'd rather gouge out my eyes.
This is a 10 without doubt.
Haha nah we need the muse version
Get that filth out ya mouth.

Every time I hear this lady I drop what I am doing and just listen
Hope you don't work in glass or ceramics manufacturing
Can we hear the Buble version, please, RP?

No
I've heard this somewhere before, but I just can't remember... Oh, well.
But it reminds me that I need to get my Trelegy prescription refilled. Then I need to buy a Volvo V40 and a Toyota pickup.
Or stop watching corporate-controlled commercial-funded programming?
And I say that with 99% sincerity and 1% shit-talk.
In fact for me, big pharma ads is exactly what got me off of commercial productions, radio, TV, movies, eff em all!!
This is still a 9 for me, and..
Long Live RP and Listener Supported Internet Radio!!
Can we hear the Buble version, please, RP?

TOO FUNNY!! I agree about the TEN!!

Bullshit. How can you compare the two?
It's just, like, his opinion, man.
Now there are 10. This is a 9 for me.
just raised mine to a ten.
awesome. i'm just surprised that until now we never had any Nina Simone recordings in the RP library at all. nice choice!

That intro rocked me.
lyrics proclaiming joy
Nina's tone weary with sadness
Rhythm and horns a campy romp
What a way to signal that you're a fool.
What a way to signal that you're a twit.
What a way to signal that you're a fool.
I second that with Nina
music can transport an aura of the perfoming artist, this is an example as is some of dylans best work - when listening there is more than just the music fading in the room and mind of the listener - there is also a almost physically imprint of the performer
She wafted down some elegant marble stairs in a Georgian house and onwards into a sunlit room full of our friends and family to stand by my side to this tune as we got married by a celebrant to a service written by ourselves.
Suffice to say. . . it now holds a very, very special place in my heart.

Well posh nuptials, Poach - sorry, Squiddly. This is a great song to get hitched to :)
Keeping my comment alive because. . . well. . . every time I hear this I am transported to that moment in time that is a highlight of my life.

Happening here right now...for the past year...hoping the 'good' part is coming soon.

I know, most likely the playlist is just on auto-pilot and it's a coincidence.

Exactly.

Yes... i have to admit that i'd never heard this version until recently. I really like the Muse song and actually thought it was the original.
Never heard the Muse version, just checked it out.. nice!
And now that I think about it... can't recall them being in the playlist here much anymore.
+1 that!
Simply fantastic performance.

This is the only song I hear you play by Simone. Why is that?

Snowflake drifting through the sky, you know how I feel ...
additional lyrics by unclehud, who votes this as 9 without hesitation
I actually totally get where he was coming from.
Also, this track is freaking amazing.
....... 100 >>>>>>>>>> 101
Fantastic Ms. Simone following JJ Cale's After Midnight, oh god then you have Led Zep "babe I'm gonna leave you"...Excellant!!!
When I hear this song I think of one my ultimate favorite movies "Point Of No Return" with Brigit Fonda where I first heard this.........smile.
I concur. This is indeed as good as it gets. (Laziness and being too busy with other more important stuff keeps me from down-rating / reorganizing my other ratings...but I should...)
Ye gods! I am so very grateful I missed that.
Amen.
I did until Simon quit. Great show. People have their prejudices. Here is a great paradox for you: the people who claim to be most interested in culture are actually the ones who are least interested in culture. (I am not making a case for TV. It's one outlet among many. But AI was a great show for awhile. Not for the same reasons we listen to RP. Apples to oranges. Love culture. Peace.)

No, but it has a very John Barry feel about it.
It was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse; they were probably buddies with John Barry anyhow.
According to Wikipedia, it's from her 1965 album I Put a Spell on You.
Also, I know this song thanks to the Muse cover (which is a 10!), but I respect and enjoy Nina's original.
Nina Simone, Albert King, Blasters, John Hammond, Ben Harper — what a set
It felt good than, and it still does.

Oh, that horn sound is amazing. Meaty is perfect way to describe it.
1965.
No, but it has a very John Barry feel about it.
Glad to see I can still learn something about music from before today...
It's almost sacrilege to say, because Simone is a Godess of song and her version is close to perfection, but... I agree.
American Idol auditions ruined this one for me. Yes, I watch the show. Doesn't everyone?
I've never heard of it, except for a few posts on RP song comment pages.
