Everything's different,
With my head in the clouds.

I hit this corner,
with my foot on the gas,
I started sliding, I'm losing.
Everything's different.
Just like that.

Oh my God,
Wait and see,
What will soon become of me.
Frozen hearts, screaming wheels,
Does that screaming come from me?

So damn lucky,
That you went on ahead.
You say, you say
'I'll see you later.'
I heard what you said in few minutes later.
I'm sliding.
Everything's different, again.

Oh my God.
Wait and see,
What will soon become of me.
Frozen hearts, screaming yields,
Does that screaming come from me?

I'm dizzy from all this spinning.

Now I'm thinking,
That you did all you could,
When you said 'my love, take it slowly.'
'Okay' is what I said.

Oh my God.
Wait and see,
What will soon become of me.
This Frozen heart and screaming yields.
Does that screaming come from me?

Take me back,
To just before I was spinning
Take me back,
Just before I got dizzy
Take me back,
Its amazing what a minute can do
Take me back,
to just before I was spinning
It's just like you

Round Round Round..(etc)
It's amazing what a minute can do
Round Round Round...

Ok is what I say

i wonder if all of his songs are autobiographical. i know that's probably silly, as i guess all artists put some of themselves into their song stories. i seem to wonder about this with Dave more than others when i hear his songs and wonder what was going on when he wrote them. some seem pretty obvious...some not so much. i don't remember this one, so thanks for bringing this to my attention. i like it a lot.
If you have never seen a show - they are brilliant and always on. The difference is you are sitting in your room judging while Dave and Coldplay are actually writing songs and playing live to hundreds of thousands of people. Go do something haters…

I was about to say the same. He's ok but I don't get the level of worship in some quarters.  There are many better.

I love Dave and his choice of inflection. He’s brilliant. Haters can suck it.

That's funny.  I like bad reviews on RP especially when someone takes the time to write more than "it sucks"
I think he's the luckiest white boy to ever pick up a guitar.
I think a lot of singers like him should continue to work on their technique but they get complacent because, why develop it? I've made millions off of this quirky warble of mine!

Considering his tour bus made an unitentional "deposit" into the Chicago River from one of the city's many drawbridges, I think it is interesting that the album cover looks a awful lot like a Chicago drawbridge.
Love anything DM!
Simply great -- even his voice!
Love the guitar melody but if only someone else was singing
A Lot of Sucko Barfos for DM AS USUAL. PURE TORTURE THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING.

Such a dreadful shame this fellow was born was a voice to make you wish you were being eaten by fire ants instead.

But to me, this version is a the tiniest bit grocery store muzak style....a bit too slick. The version of this on Live at Radio City Music Hall is soo much more raw and powerful, I think.

Just to be a picky SOB, I have to point out that this isn't Dave Matthews Band, it's Dave Matthews. Probably doesn't mean much to someone who doesn't like him, but to those of us who do like him (and his singing), it's an important distinction. To me, this album sounds completely different than the entire body of work DMB has put out. It took me a while to get my head around it, but I'm getting to really like it. Sorry.

His reputation has little to do with my personal aversion to DM. In fact I like plenty of music that'd probably be considered uncool, including Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. I can't even say why exactly, but Dave is in a small select group of artists that I just can't tolerate even in small doses.

I agree with a lot of the comments about DMB. It seems to me that the early albums were more of a collaborative effort with the rest of the band. I read somewhere that he did most of the music on the later albums without much input from them. Big mistake, IMHO.

Dylan? You mean BOB Dylan? The guy who makes Buckwheat sound like a dialect coach? Other than that, RGIO, I agree with you on a lot of points. Personally, I paid full price for "Everyday" at Best Buy, and it was the most disappointing music purchase of my entire life. That's not an exaggeration; it was a defining moment for me, to realize that good bands often made experimental "growth" albums with mediocre results. If DMB had good work after that "Everyday," I don't know anything about it. I still spin "Under the Table" and "Crash" continuously, and that's all I want to know about them.

There is a difference between "pseudo hip, grad students" and "pseudo hip grad students". It's a subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless. DM plays from the heart, he is a musician, he is not interested in making everyone happy, quite the opposite. His recient interview in RS showed what makes him tick.
And once again, it's time to turn on the mute and go do some errands down the hall. Thank you, DM, for taking the place of a commercial break.

The argument going on here is very entertaining. Here are my two cents. I'm a Radiohead fan who didn't go to college and has never liked DMB. However, I like this for some reason. I like what Dave is doing on his own and I like what he's choosing to do with guitar and piano . . . It's interesting and a nice departure from the horns and violins. But that's just my opinion. It seems that departure would disappoint true DMB fans?

I have to agree with Gypsy on this one. By the way, if you're looking for pseudo-hip, grad-students, you'll find a plethora of them at a Radiohead concert. Which, by the way, you've ranked every song of theirs in the top scale. While I agree that they're a good band, I refuse to believe that every song that they or any one artist does is excellent or godlike. It's nice to be a devoted fan, but it's even nicer to be open to all types of music or at least to not slam those that listen to something that doesn't move you the same way that Radiohead obviously does.
Yes, my ratings do tend to be a bit Radiohead-centric, but you'll see I've given high marks to everything from Patty Griffin to REM and am a devoted fan of both. I plead guilty to making a generalization based on some obnoxious DM fans I've known (my mistake), I've since done further research and found Dave fans of all levels of educational attainment (including some high-school drop-outs) who are very nice people to boot. I even got a few of my pseudo-hip, Radiohead-fan friends to admit they have a few DMB CD's lying around somewhere. Nevertheless, if I crossed the line into personal attack and unfair generalization, I apologize. One of the things that characterize the average RP poster is impeccable courtesy and decorum. Mea culpa.

Based on the laugh out loud responses to this opinion, some confirmations have been resolved: 1) When trying to defend a band/musician, attack the original poster's 10 ratings to create your own weak retort. And then turn around and use the same "insult" to boot!!!! 2) Call something a "sweeping generalization" when the original statement was CLEARLY specific--note the use of the phrase "pseudo-hip." Apparently folks here took Charles' statement to include ALL grad students. When I read the statement, I would imagine only "pseudo-hip grad students" would be offended. Must be a lot of 'em! What is "pseudo-hip"? Look it up. Keep in mind it is only an OPINION, not the gospel. 3) Assume because the poster offered an opinion contrary to yours, his taste is not "broad" or "eclectic." He MUST be narrow-minded because he states that ONE ARTIST is mediocre. Obviously that must mean he doesn't appreciate different genres of music. Amazing.

There are some pretty offensive generalizations on this list so far. Are all DMB songs or all "grad students" really alike? Let's give Mr. Matthews a chance here. He's taking a bit of a risk going off on his own here. Why anyone would go off without Carter Beauford when given the choice is beyond me, but there it is.
Oh My God - This isn't very good!

More mediocrity from the favorite band of the pseudo-hip, grad-student set :headshake:
I have to agree with Gypsy on this one. By the way, if you're looking for pseudo-hip, grad-students, you'll find a plethora of them at a Radiohead concert. Which, by the way, you've ranked every song of theirs in the top scale. While I agree that they're a good band, I refuse to believe that every song that they or any one artist does is excellent or godlike. It's nice to be a devoted fan, but it's even nicer to be open to all types of music or at least to not slam those that listen to something that doesn't move you the same way that Radiohead obviously does.
