Horrible crap. And no IDGAF what the song is about.
I'm a fan on the tail end of PJ's long 30+ year arc, but I gotta say that after listening to this band for a year on Sirius riding around in my car -- despite Vedder's sometimes incoherent howling, the occasional indulgent or less than tight playing, and songs that perhaps come up short of good composition -- Pearl Jam was and is one hot happening colossal band. Some of their live concert tracks are off the charts, and studio cuts like State of Love and Trust seem to break new thresholds. Fuckin a.

They howl about cutting taxes to zero in the same speeches in which they pound their fists and demand for spending an additional trillion dollars on the military. Ask for an explanation for this from a Republican and you'll get boilerplate on affirmative action and terrorism. A coherent explanation from a Republic is about as rare as the unicorn.

People, you're missing the point. It doesn't matter who is in the oval office because Americans (and I AM one) are too short-sighted to plan for the future. We are strictly reactionary in this country. Always have been, always will be. The biggest crisis to hit our civilization is the energy crisis and it just snuck up on us without a word from anyone in power and now the proverbial shit is hitting the virtual fan.
Americans are going to have to get used to the idea that we are not nearly as rich and powerful as we think we are.
We are about to be humbled in a big way.

Most of the $6 trillion in debt that Dubya ran up was in a good economy. If you studied Economics 20 you would have learned, as Dubya now is, that that is just plain stupid.

Bullshit, I am old enoung and remember who was in the white house the previous 8 years when the recession started, Nixon and Ford, both real gems. Jimmy Carter was not a bad president, and as a person he is outstanding, he won a noble peace prize and continues to do major charity work. Neither Bush is ever going to do that. If our current President was not born a rich boy, he wouldn't be in the white house. He has never achieved anything great in his whole life, and he is going to go down in history in the catagory of stupid presidents. seems to me that you're drawing the comparison in the wrong direction, there are alot of bands (creed, nickelback) who to me, are alot more 'cliche alt rock' and in my opinion, are major pearl jam/eddie rip off

Pearl Jam fought, unsuccessfully, to keep the Ticketmaster gang from gouging concert goers. They stepped away from the commercial hype machines such as MTV. They do everything in their power to keep the best seats in the house for the fans and not the record company/advertising muckety mucks. Their ticket prices are kept much lower than the market would bear while other bands try to grab as much lucre from their "fans" as they can.
Plus, "Riot Act" is a very good album.

I almost hate to comment because I know lots of you guys love this band, but this band has never done it for me. Eddie's billy goat vibrato and the effected cliche "alt" vocal style just turn me off.
There are a couple of songs that I find appealing though, maybe if someone else sang them.

As soon as I heard it I thought "Who are they trying to be, Pearl Jam?" Now that it actually Pearl Jam I think even less of it for some reason. I guess because the pretension is sincere instead of ironic.
