This guy drives me crazy!  Just when I have all his fingers counted, he grows MORE and then plays songs like this one.  I love his music, craziness notwithstanding.

Bumping, just because

Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

He's played pretty frequently here; you may just have been listening at the wrong times.

12 fingers on each hand.  I know it!  What a maestro. {#Guitarist}

Gotta love Kottke. Wish Bill would play some Adrian Legg too. And John Fahey. And more Hawaiian Slack Key artists. And there's Flamenco and...and the list goes on.

I've been listening to this since the album was first released in 1969 and it's as amazing today as the first time I heard it.

{#Cool}  Old-school Kottke, before he literally hurt himself from playing so aggressively.

He COULD have multi-tracked this studio recording, but not likely.  This track sounds no different than his live stuff back then.  He could — probably still can — keep a slide on one finger while picking the heck out of a 12-string with the rest of his fingers until time to slide.

Delish.

I remember seeing Leo the first time in Ft. Worth around 1976 or so.  Just him and a bunch of guitars on stage.  Most of his songs sounded like 2-3 guys playing together. I'd bet this is just him single-tracked.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I saw Leo open for Bonnie Raitt a few years ago, on very short notice according to Bonnie.

He opened with this, just him and his acoustic 12 string sitting in front of a microphone.

I can definitely attest that he can play this with no studio trickery as I was sitting 20 feet away.  Mind Blowingly GREAT!
Gott im himmel!
He blows my mind. That is all.

He may indeed be triple-tracking, as suggested below, but some of that effect comes from plucking a twelve-string guitar.  (This comment is placed for others, but springs from Cynaera's original post.)

Kottke uses a lot of open tuning. Pretty cool.
I've been follow Leo since 69 and this one still gives me a chill.  If it wasn't said before he is definitely playing all the notes and not multitracking it.

I have to wonder if it takes courage to select this for the "mix" here on RP.  It only seems to get played about once a year.  It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Leo and John Fahey have given me years of enjoyment.  Hearing this I miss Gaye Delorme once again....   It's one of the reasons I love Radio Paradise.

Rest in peace? Kottke hasn't died, he's still playing, and beautifully i might add. I've seen him four times in the last few years.

No.   He misses Ann.  alias Cynaera.  She has not made a peep since early 2012.
Truly amazing guitar work. This goes off the scale of Ten and out into the universe, phenomenal.

Kottke actually did a take on Gilewitz's Echoing Wilderness named Echoing Gilewitz

He hasn't released an album in nearly a decade and is close to 70 years old.  I wonder if he's retired from the studio.
Wow!
And again...
Your wish has been granted!

Great song, wish they would play it though!!
