Well hey, how's tricks man
Think I seen you before
Blank blank do ya
You looked a lot older
You been workin' out
Whats wrong with that
Well he came back and
Came marching in
Shot shot to the
He found a good reason
Do it for the money
Whats wrong with that
Control your bad side in to peril
We come down
Hold the line
You'll survive
Dead wrong
So please stop talking
Start puckering up
My ears are blank
Its the special occasions
You do it for the money
Can't go wrong with that
Explode or capsize
Provide my poet
If you're down
Town the line
You're so fine
Dead wrong
Think I seen you before
Blank blank do ya
You looked a lot older
You been workin' out
Whats wrong with that
Well he came back and
Came marching in
Shot shot to the

Anyone else hear "Brass Monkey" when the sax kicks in?
Cracking song this. It might just be the sax reminding me, but surprised I rarely (if ever?) hear Morphine on RP.
omg this is such a great song when the sax kicks in and i can't sit still.
Quirky song, in a good way.
in our gun is probably my very fav by them. i really wish i'd have seen them live during this time.
Need a new album and tour from these guys. Been way too long! Hope they haven't hung it up for good.
Ohhhh this is cool! It reminds me of Morphine in a good way with the use of sax...
Humm, sounds a little to much like Radiohead 's National Anthem, up tempo. Even the horns...
Man, this is busy...

Definite Morphine buzz to this. RIP Mark Sandman.

Wow! I haven't thought about these guys in a bazillion years! Nice reminder!!!
The saxophone riff reminds me of “Brass Monkey” by the Beastie Boys.
Great band! I never heard of them before. Thanx RP!
This song always puts me in the mood to follow up with some Morphine. Gotta have me some low rock.
Boy this just Blasts! and then it's over :(
This is one of the bands Bill has turned me into a fan of, love these guys.
Good for you Gomez. Bringin' the sax riff back!

Love Gomez, but didn't realize it was them. For a bit in there, I thought it was Morphine on speed. :)

My favorite group of all time. Just wish they would put out a new album. Keep pumpin' the Gomez
This whole album kicks ass.
This song KICKS ASS.
But this has a baritone sax — like what Brass Monkey should have used instead of that squeaky thing.

Thought there was a Monumental 'Bottom Burp' for a second or two but it turned out to be a horn...

Funny-I'm listening to RP on Friday, 11/1/13, and the playlist is in the same order as you heard back then: McCartney, Gomez, etc...

Morphine meets Radiohead, for sure. Is there any singular appeal to Gomez? I mean, they're not bad, but I've heard nothing by them that really grabs me...

Yes and no. No, not all the songs are like this one. The band has three different writers, Ben Ottewell, Ian Ball, and Tom Gray. This one's Ian Ball's. They're all terrific writers, so, yes, the rest of the album is as good as this song. Fair enough?
Is the rest of this album like this song?

This song is a teaser: The National Anthem -> Buena -> Brass Monkey -> The National Anthem.
This is about as close to sampling I've heard in while that does not credit the original artists.
A lot of the parts in this really remind me of Radiohead's "The National Anthem"... the bass line, the Ondes-Martenot sound... Hmmm.

hearing gomez anywhere else besides my own cd player makes me giddy.
Yup.
The sax in this song isn't nearly as slutty as the sax morphine does. . .

Agree totally. Haven't seen them live yet, but hope to someday.

Gomez does morphine, quite addictive. ;)

Great. Now i'm going to have Brass Monkey stuck in my head for the rest of the day

One of those bands I think I should like but just don't. Saw them live at a festival and got bored. Vocals became monotonous.

freakin sweet!

More please?
Echoes of Morphine's "Honey White" in this songs rhythms and sax. Loving it!
Anything with saxes gets an extra point in my book. I like the "funky monkey" sax line.

Ahem... if all of that's a sound, then they're great, or then all of the above are crappy. :)

After hearing it a few more times, I've given it another point (still sounds like the Beasties).
original. brilliant. and....

I agree! The first time I heard the beginning guitar lick was on TV in a car commercial and I thought "Damn, what a PJ Harvey rip off! And to sell cars, no less!" I didn't realize it was actually a song by a real band. I thought it was commissioned to sound like PJ since they only play the guitar lick part.
I like the full version!
I thought the Mazda commercial was a rip off of the Radiohead tune "national anthem"
I thought this song was too at the beginning... but I guess there are only so many notes you're bound to repeat some...

I agree! I just saw them 2 months ago and my only complaint is that they don't have an actual horns section and didn't make too much of an attempt to simulate the horns with the keyboards. But that's not really even a complaint because the show was so faboo.
Gomez are your friends.
