This is the last day of our acquaintance
I will meet you later in somebody's office
I'll talk but you won't listen to me
I know what your answer will be
I know you don't love me anymore
You used to hold my hand when the plane took off
Two years ago there just seemed so much more
And I don't know what happened to our love
Today's the day
Our friendship has been stale
And we will meet later to finalize the details
Two years ago the seed was planted
And since then you have taken me for granted
But this is the last day of our acquaintance
I will meet you later in somebody's office
I'll talk but you won't listen to me
I know your answer already
But this is the last day of our acquaintance
I will meet you later in somebody's office
I'll talk but you won't listen to me
I know your answer already
I know your answer already
I know your answer already

This entire album is a 10!
One of her very best.
RIP Sinéad.
A few commenters here remark on her hair style.  I read that after she signed her first recording contract she was urged by the execs to "tart it up a bit."  So she shaved her head.  I've loved her so much ever since just for that alone.   She performed this song on SNL in 1990, I think.  Started by dedicating it to "all the women out there."  She seemed overcome towards the end to the point where she forgot to sing, was sort of shouting.  She ended and she looked up sort of stunned and maybe the audience was too for a beat before erupting in screams and loud applause.   Amazing moment.
I was really into this when it came out.  A business friend was just going thru a tough divorce so I lent it to her saying you need to listen to this track ....and I never got it back.  So I bought myself another one....
My first Sinead album, boy what luck! This is probably my fave track, and ultimately it became my breakup song for a particularly tough breakup, thank you Sinead.
8 --> 9
The desolation in this song is overwhelming.
That drumming!
Gets me every time.
dang, haven't heard that song since high school
Best break up song ever. I haven't broken up with anyone in more than 25 years, but this still stirs that raw emotion of MOVING ON.
Excuse me, I need to go home and be real nice to my wife.
A good go-to f-off song.
Just a great song!

One of my favorite from this album. Thank you for playing it.
day before Spring and Sinead's Awesome voice,  mmmmm pure joy    : )

Yes.

Happy Solstice everyone.   A lump of coal for President Trump.

My thanks, as well.

For the fans of this song who don't know yet, there is a gorgeous version where she takes the first part (before drums) almost at half tempo; she also throws in additional vocalises and there are wonderful additionnal harmonies by several members of the band.

Highly enjoyable: https://youtu.be/jLGobWuiYuc

She really stuns me time and again...

Wow!  Awesome performance.  Thanks for sharing this.
I can so relate to her and her conviction and truthfulness. I use to blast this song in my house back in the day, its a great release of emotion. If only I could do that now!
Still stunningly beautiful.

This is an excellent recording, as is the entire album. She really had her talents together around this era.

Then she got drunk, road off on a bike and woke up in a dumpster.{#Stupid}

hard to believe we just listened to the same song.  could not disagree more.

then again, i've been through the sort of divorce this song describes, so maybe i'm biased.
I remember being stunned by her heartfelt beauty in Nuttin compares 2 u, a very pretty woman, but bald?   well ok, a little odd but absolutely stunning.       fly forward 25 years, wow, if id married her I would be serving life for murder by now.      talk about whiney high maintenence and downright annoying.   whenever I hear her, it seems to start nice and end up screaming in rage, this one is no different.

I've always loved this whole album, but this song in particular is a standout. Sinéad uses dynamics very well in general, but to especially spectacular effect on this track.
I can't resist the slow build of this. And she just completely nails it...grabs me and then, the lyrics seriously knock my guts out.

Wow... Haven't heard this before.   Thank you.

A duet would also be powerful...
I can't resist commenting again...this song is out of this world...Lazarus:  get all over this!
Outstanding! Soulful, tuneful. Powerful.
Takes me back to my angst ridden teen years...loved listening at a loud volume!

Probably my favorite Sinead...oh oh oh.  The buildup is like Bolero.
I just love the vocal commitment that Sinead gives to her songs. Power and control given with such a crisp delivery. Sublime.
I crank this beauty to ultimate volume, I'd let this awesome singer blast my windows any day  (oh hoo hoo!)
Love this song.
kill me now.

***THANK YOU**** calypsus_1 for that link.

I have a dream. In that dream, I see Sinéad in concert at the time this album came out.
I don't doubt she's worth seeing on stage today.
It's just that back then, well - she was killing me. Still is. Killing in a good way, in case someone was about to crack a wise one {#Cool}
Music like this kinda saved the 90's for me.
One of Sinéad's best.
This song rawks.

It is true.  I joked about her on a similar song, but break-ups are very very sad.  Any break-up truly crushes me.  I come from a very broken family so this has a lot of personal meaning for me........I never went through it myself, not a real serious one any way, but I saw it a lot (like we all have)

Wonderful song
this hit so close to home back in the day, still does..{#Notworthy}
Love this song. Her voice is so strong. She seems to have fallen on the deep end now.
Wild honey,...
A great artist, I will never tire of.
Haven't heard this in ages, and I'm amazed at how deeply familiar it is to me; I have listened to this much more than I thought I did.

I revere her like a (fallen) angel throwing bolts of creative energy burning everything except herself...

I think that it's a political act that destroyed her musical career, not a creative one (that's my 5 cents contribution to the debate of her still worthy of being called an artist in her own right after making a political statement that cetainly is up for discussion.)
She will to me. Unlistenable.

She nailed it on this one. Many of us have been there ... I never had to suffer lawyers to date in a breakup, but it hurts just as much.
She will?  You must watch too much television.

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches be dancing buck ass naked all across the world like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners...  we love this song...  love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...
totally Fantastic singer
Brilliant, highly personal lyrics, brilliantly sung.

You can't help but sing along when this kicks in towards the end of the song.
