It seems like years since you held the baby
While I wrecked the bedroom
You said it was dangerous after Sunday
And I knew you loved me
He thinks I just became famous
And that's what messed me up
But he's wrong
How could I possibly know what I want
When I was only twenty-one?
And there's millions of people
To offer advice and say how I should be
But they're twisted
And they will never be any influence on me
But you will always be
You will always be

If I treated you mean
I really didn't mean to
But you know how it is
And how a pregnancy can change you

I see plenty of clothes that I like
But I won't go anywhere nice for a while
All I want to do is just sit here
And write it all down and rest for a while
I can't bear to be in another city
One where you are not
I would return to nothing without you
If I'm your girlfriend or not

Maybe I was mean
But I really don't think so
You asked if I'm scared
And I said so

Everyone can see what's going on
They laugh 'cause they know they're untouchable
Not because what I said was wrong
It might be brave
I will live by my own policies
I will sleep with a clear conscience
I will sleep in peace

Maybe it sounds mean
But I really don't think so
You asked for the truth and I told you

Through their own words
They will be exposed
They've got a severe case of
The emperor's new clothes
The emperor's new clothes
The emperor's new clothes
The emperor's new clothes

If only folks would hang in there for the phenomenal drumming at the end.
As a woman, I love the lyrics.

But, day-um, In-the-pocket percussion shouldn't be missed.
I need some Shin Aids.

right? still awesome.

A unique voice of suffering

But why the negative sounding album title?  Or is that meant to reflect her paining?

'I want what I have got' sounds so much better

This song, in concert. Wow. I think it gave me arrhythmia.

Best female voice in the buisness!!

Interesting. I personally believe she's been unfairly criticized for stating her opinions about an organization that, after all, she was a member of. I guess she was even kind of ahead of the curve, huh...now vindicated, one might even say.{#Cry}

Sinead O'Connor, Irish musician and abuse-victim, was so incensed by Benedict's fake empathy, she wrote a fiery article for the Washington Post where she said:

"Irish Catholics are in a dysfunctional relationship with an abusive organization. The pope must take responsibility for the actions of his subordinates. If Catholic priests are abusing children, it is Rome, not Dublin, that must answer for it with a full confession and a criminal investigation. Until it does, all good Catholics... should avoid Mass. In Ireland, it is time we separated our God from our religion, and our faith from its alleged leaders."

ROCKIN!!  This whole album, actually, as many others have pointed out.

{#High-five} Agreed! What a fantastic song.

I thought I heard it at the beginning! At first, I thought it was because I was walking too close to the turntable!

We had an intern working with us a few years ago, cute as a button and a bit on the skittish side. I couldn't place who she reminded me of until one day it came to me, "You look a lot like Sinead O'Connor." Said she, missing the point, "But she's BALD!" and burst into tears. Well, I told you she was skittish. A while later, her cat died while having its teeth cleaned, she fell completely apart, and we never saw her again.
Strong album! {#Music}
Compare the first ten seconds of this song with the first ten seconds of The Killers - Jenny Was a Friend of Mine.

Always a good memory with this one —-
I came in at the last 3rd of this song... is the record skipping?
Is this the Archies? Because it sounds like it...
We used to make fun of her in high school... now I think she's great. {#Stupid}

The Pope isn't just a religious figure but a political one. He's fair game.

Without getting deep into the arguments or saying whether they were completely justified or not, JP2 was criticized for things like:
— justifying and contributing to the oppression of women
— providing protection to priests who sexually abuse children
— trying to shut down the Jesuits' efforts to help the 3rd World through education because it was unpopular with 3rd world gov'ts.
— pressuring anyone within his influence not to discuss population, arguably the #1 problem in the World, as an issue

And that's just the short list.

This page is about the music so I don't want to go too far off on a political tangent. BUT, if Sinead wants to criticize the Pope, there's some reason to do so.

Yeah, what he ↑ said.
Would have loved to hear the mesmerizing Stretched on your grave.

Right on, well said {#High-five} And now the new one said that condoms increase aids?? These guys are not just religious clowns in their ridiculous costumes, they also spread dangerous lies!
The whole album is great.

Hey, you can disagree with her politics or her personality. Hell, I think she's as crazy as a run-over dog.

But this woman has the voice of an angel, with the vocal range to boot.

One of the world's worst? Sorry bub. That must be your ass talking, because your head knows better. {#Liar}
Every time I step out of the room Bill slips in a really good one. Gotta get some wireless headphones.

Huh??

Ah.......the memories
I second what aquadonia says...I highly respect what she stood up for.

This Lady-Singer congregates all the predicates and parchments that a singer can have, including your strong personality. For everything and because i like of hearing and appreciate your work, Tankyou ms. Sinéad Marie Bernadette O' Connor. God Bless You! - ** 9 **

This is one woman I have so much respect for.  I love her voice, and I will never forget seeing her on SNL (as mentioned in posts below), but not just for the politcal stance she made. I look back on that now and admire her guts to stand up there and do what she did. What passion! She stood up for her beliefs in a non-violent way and in such a public way, and I find that awesome.

This song if definitely not her best, but I'll take it. Her voice is wonderful.

Buddy I hadn't seen in a year pulls up and as I cross the road, smiling wide, I hear this playing in his van. Loved it then and love it now
...'kay; i'm not the only one who heard it... (rachael yamagata -> sinead o'connor)

love this CD this song and her, well I like "Black Boys on Mopeds" slightly better than this...and then there's "Three Babies" anyway great CD!
I think this CD is, overall, brilliant, despite this rather pedestrian song.
crap
everything sinead does is bad ass! looooooove her!

Although she ripped John Paul, the current Pope's reign definitely can not be noted for "professing peace."

Quite a bit of Avril La-V but Old Baldy came first ...
has she ever grown any hair back?
Can't believe I hadn't rated that yet! 9.
All right!! I've noticed I havent given many songs a 3. Thanks Sinead
Hate me, but, I hear too much Madonna in this.

it sounds odd to me as well. at first i thought it was a cover.
I actually remember this one! Good call by RP to play it again. There's actually quite a bit of Sinead on the RP playlist...

I still love this album!
This is \"pure\" pop not \"typical\" pop. Upbeat and catchy music are not exclusive to the Brittany Spears set and Sinead should never be likened to cookie-cutter pop.
her dramatic tunes ... I like ... this is just typical pop .... nothing
As much as I love Sinead, this is one of the ones I'm not too keen on... I must remember to try and upload some tracks off the first album "The Lion and the Cobra"...
Can\'t beat that with a stick.
Great Sinead tune. Strong beat, easy to dance to, good vocals. I give it a 10
Funny how few tunes by Sinead I like (i.e. this one) just because they\'re catchy--or funny, perhaps, how few are catchy. W/this tune and Hornsby before it, we\'ve got quite the early-90s-pop thing going here. Ah, to be 20, with all the world (and of couirse the Grunge Thing) spread before me.... :p R
Her first album was awsome. This was mediocre at best. Just felt like it was a let-down.
I\'m usually anything but a Sinead fan, but this one is infectious. Wouldn\'t mind hearing it once a week or so. For unknown reasons, I now wonder if she\'s ever done a cover of \'Blinded By the Light\' by Manfred Mann\'s Earth Band.
Despite Sinead\'s rocky reputation, I always have thought this song one of the coolest songs of the early 90\'s.
gettin\' old.
More Sinead more often, please!
This is a great old Sinead song. RP kicks a**!!!
