the woman's voice signing "he called me baby, baby" is a sample from Candi Staton's cover version of the original Patsy Cline song. Listen to all 3 songs in a row. It's an amazing evolution and may make you apprciate the lstest version a bit more.

That was amazing to listen to. Thank you.

You've been my queen for longer than you know
My love for you has been
Everything step I take
Every day I live
Everything I seeAnd if I get things wrong
Don't want you to think I'm running away
But I heard from Jo about this guy And I want to knowWhat did he say?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he do?
He called me baby, baby all night longWhy? Why? Why, did you need him?
Where was I?
Just how close to you is he?
Every smile you gave
Every touch you made
Every word you saidAnd it hurts beyond hurt
It was a love that blinds
And a love that stings
When I heard from Jo about this guy
And I want to knowWhat did he say?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he do?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he do?He called you baby, baby all night long
What did he do?
He called me baby, baby all night long
What did he say?
He called me baby, baby, all night long
What did he do?
He called you baby, baby, all night longI know he called you babe
All night long

Me too, however I never thought of them as 'stupid'. I never will.  I only wish I would have recorded some of them.  jennifsh wrote:

Mute-worthy.

Good voices , music not bad but they could make more of it!!
Saw these guys last summer when they opened for Tori Amos in Toronto. Didn't know what to make of them. They played a tight, melodic set of 4-5 tunes, including this as the opener (the girl's voice was pre-recorded and just came out of nowhere; weird). They must have felt pretty good about being offered Tori's tour. I think like any audience member, I was fired up to see Tori. These fellows came out, and you're "rooting" for them to play a solid set. They did. Not sure they're strong enough to carry a show on their own just yet.

This is a different version than I've been hearing? Or am I not awake yet.

"he called me babe"

It was shorter than 1 eyed circus freak, I guess.
He called you what again? Tell him your actual name already.

Sounds like a really boring date.
I'll admit, I'm a little tired of this song. I'm sure there are other wonderful creations by this slightly-demented band. I went to their official website and was reading Adam's blog - I LOVE the way this guy writes!!  He's eclectic, observant, and hysterically funny - he's also quite introspective.  He writes like he (probably) talks.

So - new respect and love for One eskimO.  And a plea to whoever uploaded "Kandi" - please submit more!

Oh sweet baby Jesus, not this song again.

It's a nice enough song, but baby baby baby, this shows up so often I feel like I've been listening to it all night long.  {#Puke}

I listen every day at work and have never heard this song. I like it.

That's funny!!  ;)
O BAY BEE
Very nice tune!
Yikes! Some of my fellow RPers, can be such snobs! SOME of us only get to listen to RP off and on, so I have NEVER heard this on here.*
Wife and I first heard this song only a couple of days ago (guess who doesn't get out much?) on a {#Puke}commercial radio station and wondered who performed it. Searched their site for a playlist, etc. and they didn't have one. Idiots. Heard this today during my RP time, and with one click I had the info. I needed to purchase this album. RP gets the spiff. And that's just fine by me.

*So what I'm saying is, I guess, is that I need to listen to RP more so I can grow to hate this laid back and soulful tune as much as some of you.

This station is the absolute best. Becca, give ol' whatzizname a big hug and smooch for the lot of us out here who are fortunate enough to have found (Radio)paradise!

So, did you call him, "baby," too? I sure would have! "What's the problem, baby? I'm not doin' anything wrong, baby! You need to chillax, baby!" — you get the idea. You must ALWAYS have a backup plan!

like the evolution of Stevie Wonder's "Pasttime Paradise" to "Gangsta's Paradise" to "Amish Paradise"...

Fun stuff; laid back groove and a hoppy bass line.
Whats not to like?

Upon further review, I agree with you. 7 -> not rated
That sounds like one long, annoying night to me.   ALL he did was go, "baby, baby," all night long!  That's it!

And I agree, the lead singer DOES sound like Tracy Chapman, but I've always thought she sounded kinda manly, so it works out.

way to pay attention!  so you can't dance to it then?

Delightful fusion of the Staton song.

Wow - thanks for the info. I did go to YouTube and wiki.  She is indeed still alive!  69 years old and still recording!!  Thanks again!
This gets a 9 from me — sweet groove

Yeah, I totally hear Tracy Chapman in the voice too... although her voice is rather deep.  But I too thought this was a woman.  Kind of a catchy song either way - I'm not totally enamored yet, but I suspect it will grow on me with subsequent listenings.

The melody is so damn infectious. I can't help but groove along with it.

I also think it's cool that this is one of the few pop songs where the guy doesn't get the girl in the end.

Failed relationship music hasn't sounded this sugary delicious since the late '50s and early '60s.

Interesting point...I saw the video for this song recently, thought it a bit odd, but didn't put that together.

Makes sense now!
I know this is a cover...it'a buggin' me....can someone please remind me who did the original??
I really like this and I don't know why.

Nice!  Refreshing.  One of the singers has a really powerful sounding voice - much respect for that!  I love the major keys.
I kinda like it.
9->10.  good stuff.
Dear God, please stop with the baby, baby song!!!

exactly the point - i think he's not quite able to believe that a little sweet talk was all "he" needed to do....

Sounds exactly like the original
They've been playing this song quite a bit here in Vancouver on Shore 103.  I really like it!
Testimony of some sort, I guess.
Good to see new stuff. Keep it up Bill. (Remember your customers won't buy the oldies because they already own 'em.) Thanks.
WOW - I am so glad RP has added this to their playlist! It made top 10 songs from xpn's top 100 songs of 2009 countdown.
I've heard this a few times on one of the more tolerable austin radio stations and always enjoyed it. just recently found out who the artist was. a welcome addition to paradise, IMO

They have a really cool animated film that they play in the background during live shows to accompany this album.

Just discovered this band recently.  Particularly love this track.
Good stuff.  8!
