Waking up dead inside of my head
Will never, never do, there is no med
No medicine to take

I've had a chance to be insane
Asylum from the falling rain
I've had a chance to break

It's so bad, it's got to be good
Mysterious girl misunderstood
Dressed like a wedding cake

Any other day and I might play
A funeral march for Bonnie Brae
Why try and run away?

Slow cheetah, come before for my forest
Looks like it's on today
Slow cheetah, come, it's so euphoric
No matter what they say

I know a girl, she worked in a store
She knew not what her life was for
She barely knew her name

They tried to tell her she would never be
As happy as a girl in a magazine
She bought it with her pay

Slow cheetah, come before for my forest
Looks like it's on today
Slow cheetah, come, it's so euphoric
No matter what they say

Everyone has so much to say
They talk, talk, talk their lives away
Don't even hesitate

Walking on down to the burial ground
It's a very old dance with a merry old sound
Looks like it's on today

Slow cheetah, come before for my forest
Looks like it's on today
Slow cheetah, come, it's so euphoric
No matter what they say
Slow cheetah, come before for my forest
Looks like it's on today
Slow cheetah, come, it's so euphoric
No matter what they say

Funny. I guess there are lots of people who hate this song (and the band) and loving themselves for it. I must admit I am one of them.

I don't listen to musicians. I have my own ears and can like what I like. I like Cave, but shut up about other musicians.  And I believe there is some jealousy here. The Pepper's can sell out football stadiums worldwide. Nick can't.

I dislike the band, but I am compelled to respect Flea's musicianship.
This is not popular I am sure, but I am glad RP continues to play songs/bands (not just this one) in spite of all the negative comments and people that don't care for it. There are things I don't care for, they are either tolerable ad I listen, or not and  I skip. Even if I don't like it---it is people putting their heart and soul into their music, and I appreciate that.

sounds a lot like Californication

Meh

I guess I should explain that. I don't dislike the band, but despite the subject matter, the lyrics and tune are a bit lacking.
I like this.
Better than average for newer RHCP.

My feeling also Leechi   very sad song
Wow!  Nobody out there hear that this a tragic teenage suicide song?  An unpopular teenage girl on anti depressents  decides to take her own life. She stands before God and he accepts her to join.   She is a slow cheetah and suicide is painless (so euphoric)

That's Frusciante on the high pitched harmonies helping him

Enough!  You just played these stiffs a few hrs ago.  At least change up on the song;there are about 13 other cuts to choose from on this release.  I would hope some don't suck as this one does.

I mean, I hate to be a stereotypical hater - you certainly can't pick on their rhythm section - but Keidis' constant efforts to lend their songs something resembling a melody is just a decades-long exercise in futility. Even Ringo Starr is shaking his head at the lack of range.

I'm sorry but almost everything I hear from them these days sounds so recycled and generic. It's like they are lampooning themselves.

It's about as adventurous as Boston (but with more tattoes and less power chords).

And Anthony Kiedis is not aging well.

{#Clap}{#Yes}

Never thought much of this band even at its peak.

Regardless, this is some of Anthony's best vocals....
The most over-hyped band I've ever encountered (and I was working as a radio DJ in the mid-70s). I don't understand the critical acclaim. I've listened to just about everything they have done and it's all spectacularly boring.

Curiously, band members have done excellent work on the recordings of other artists, but this band consistently produces drab dross.

I totally agree, give me early Peppers anytime, but everything since Californication does pretty much sound the same (all mediocre and bland) {#Yawn}
for me, one of the top 10 bands ever. Always have and always will love this band.
Up until now, I've reserved comment on the Chilis.  I wanted to give Anthony Kiedis the benefit of the doubt, and Flea? Well, he's in a universe all his own. And it's scary. The rhymes are juvenile, but then they're incredibly intelligent rap. I hate rap. Maybe if I was in the boarder-surfer ilk, this band would float my boat. I just haven't been able to get avid about them, although I have to admit, on a hot summer day in suburbia with nothing to do but kick back with a cold beer and soak up the sun, they're good on the ears.

I'm still ambiguous about them. Some days I love their music, and other days, I just want to shriek in horror and frustration.  I guess this is another of those extreme bands - either one loves them or hates them, and any attempt to be middle-ground results in brain-fry. I've done the tightwire act so far, but I swear - if Anthony Kiedis gets any more off-key with his vocals, I won't be accountable for my actions.

I wonder if some of the comments reflect the fact that fans of RHCP have not evovled as much as the band. People evovle with time, and so do bands. I actually like this, but given some comments, you would think the band had become a steaming pile of ....   ;-)

Nothing like their older stuff?  Oh, you mean like rhyming state names in several songs.  Yeah, that's a new one.  They should have rhymed Mississippi with insipid.

One of best songs from Stadium Arcadium with very simple - but very strong - guitar solo at the end.

Indeed. Anthony Kiedis' is a great rapper. The early Chili Peppers' music was fresh and original. now his melodies are all the same. Talk about a one trick pony and not a very good one at that. The Peppers have gone the way of so many before them, on the off ramp to the easy listening bin. How unfortunate.

Right on, I guess will time will tell, haha. And yes, Kiedis is no Jeff Buckley, not by a long shot, but he's got soul that some so called "real" singers are sadly missing. I believe rock and roll is giving it all you got even if you might not exactly be the most skilled in that area. I mean, what are we sayin, only american idol people should be allowed to sing songs just because they can technically sing, yuch. Music's just a big piece of pie and everyone deserves a chance for a slice. He must be doing something right to be around for 20 years. Who can say they are doing that and still relevant, besides U2? There are PLENTY of worse bands out there but I still maintain that: a) It took them until Mother's Milk to figure out that songs need melodies b) Keidis' lack of vocal range has hindered them in this regard c) Since discovering melody they've released a bunch of quasi-ballads that are okay but if they don't watch themselves they'll soon be putting out stuff that sounds like late-Hagar-era Van Halen. That's not good, BTW. d) I know a lot of rock songs sound the same but "Dhani California" REALLY sounds like "Mary Jane's Last Dance." So, to conclude. They're not a SHITTY band and, yeah, they've gotten better, but they won't be remembered as one of the greats. They're more likely to be remembered for the sock thing than their craftshmanship, IMHO.

I hear what you're saying, but they did release a double album that has pretty much any style you want. This just happens to be one of the mellower tunes and yes they don't write as many aggresive songs but certainly more than any other 40 year olds or 30 year olds for that matter. These guys could go off and right a whole funk album if they wanted to, but they all chose collectively to write for the purpose of a good song, even if they may not be using their full potential in the song at that moment and that's a true band..worried more about the song than their own contribution. ulibcn wrote:
