Yes, been blue, lost my baby, she went away, blah blah.  But if I was writing songs and music, I'd get my head out of my ego ass and write about the world outside my head. I'd certainly mix up the delivery of the message. Every Issak song, at least those I've heard on RP and elsewhere, is the same crap about his bruised and busted heart.  Larger social concerns? Some humor? Her point of view? Another topic? I can name 100 or more great music acts who were ready willing able to move out of their zone. Why should I listen to him? He's an auto PSD on this laptop.

This song really shows off the hard rocker side of Chris Isaak, and that is a great thing.  Amazing album all the way through.  I may be a complete prog rock music snob who only likes to talk about Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, but I will tell you this; Chris Isaak has way more talent that he gets credit for.

I'm with you on this. I find Chris Isaak the most annoying artist on RP by far nowadays. He is easily the number one reason that I switch off RP and listen to something else. And because he seems to pop up with incredible (and annoying) regularity I now find myself turning RP off way more often than I would otherwise. It's something about his nasal vocal sound employing excessive vibrato and the fact that although he emotes heavily it just doesn't sound like he cares about what he is singing about. IMHV, and YMMV.

I love how Chris consistently brings it with the best of what Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley were all about...and that is a very cool thing indeed.
His live shows are entertainment at its finest, too.  He has a great on-stage sense of humor and gets instant audience rapport, and wow, that voice, that timing, that heart-felt twang he puts into those classic lovelorn lyrics that grab the hearts and ears of so many, every time...

I saw Chris Isaak perform live in San Francisco on New Year's Eve 1993/1994, and while he put on a good show, I always had a grudge against him for not playing "San Francisco Days" that night, even though "Wicked Games" had released that same year. Then I saw him perform for my second time at "The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival" (my favorite music festival each year) last month in Golden Gate Park in SF and he blew me and the rest of the crowd away. It felt like what it would have been like seeing Elvis Presley perform live today, if he had lived and still performed like he did in his two great years from 1956-1958, before he went off into the Army and returned to make mediocre Hollywood films and perform in Las Vegas like a shadow of his former self.

Actually, I was stuck on the throne while listening to this song and I thought to myself, "Chris Isaak has got to be the most lovelorn sonofabitch in show business." Yes, songs about losing at love are the bread and butter of songwriters, but Isaak wallows in the pain with his singing style. You'd think his vital organs were being dissolved in the confines of a four-minute pop song. 

I can't recall hearing a song of his that wasn't about romantic heartbreak. I'm sure he writes about stuff besides love, but those songs don't seem to get played.

Definitely agree with you about broadening musical horizons with RP.

Chris Isaak? I've heard too many heartbreak-warble songs from him. Yes, many of them are beautiful but I'd like to hear another style from him.

Often, as in this case, I start up RP after work and the next thing I know several of my top-rated songs play. His first couple of albums were all outstanding, but this is my favorite.  Lots of raw emotion packed into to well produced songs.  (Haven't picked up the last two or three, but I hear they are good as well.)
