Maybe I'm swimming in happiness
But it's an ocean of tears in my mind
All that my body can never forget
Why do good things make me cry?
Ooh they make me wanna fly on back
Through that hole in the sky

Something that I learned when I was three
How to leave my body yeah
Voices they come back and say

Go on, let go, you don't have to say goodbye
It was all a dream, you don't have to wonder why
No no, I'll stay right here, wanna hear my daughter laughing
She can hear her daughter laughing
When we die, we'll die fighting

Maybe if it hasn't killed me yet
It'll make me stronger in time
All that my body can never forget
Why do good things make me cry?
Ooh they make me wanna fly on back
Through that hole in the sky

Something that I learned when I was three
How to leave my body yeah
Voices they come back and say

Go on, let go, you don't have to say goodbye
It was all a dream, you don't have to wonder why
No no, I'll stay right here, wanna hear my daughter laughing

It was all a dream, you don't have to wonder why
No no, I'll stay right here, wanna hear my daughter laughing

I'm gonna call this a very shortsighted view of both the genre, it's remake in modern days, and especially the full spectrum of Russell's catalog.  The strings on this tune are completely killer.  And this song/album is SO different from her catalog it bears attention from everyone (literally everyone on this platform) to check her out.  Might be one of the most broadbase and versatile artists of this generation.
I hear just a whiff of "When Doves Cry".

I definitely had a ā€œBill finds a lot of stuff from the late 70s I havenā€™t heard beforeā€ moment and then looked at the release date.
Somebody's been listening to Sister Sledge in her basement. This tune sounds like it is straight outta the '80s.
Can hear the Gloria Gaynor vocal comparison.
Finding myself liking the Allison Russell songs
RP brings me.
No... First?
Nice tune

Very Gloria Gaynor-esque...
