When I was a young boy, my mama said to me
There's only one girl in the world for you
And she's probably in Tahiti
Or Maybe she's in the Bahamas
Where the Caribbean Sea is blue
We've been in a tropical moonlight night
'Cause nobody taught her 'bout you

I'd call go the whole wide world, I'd call go the whole wide world
Just to find her
I'd call go the whole wide world, I'd call go the whole wide world
To find out where they hide her

Why am I hanging around in the rain out here
Trying to pick up a girl
Why are my eyes filling up with these lonely tears
When there's girls all over the world
Is she lying on a tropical beach somewhere

Underneath the tropical sun
Pining away in a heat wave there
Hoping that I won't be long
I should be lying on that sun soaked beach with her
Caressing her warm brown skin
Then in a year or maybe not quite
We'll be sharing the same next of kin

I'd call go the whole wide world, I'd call go the whole wide world
Just to find her
I'd call go the whole wide world, I'd call go the whole wide world
To find out where they hide her
I'd call go the whole wide world, I'd call go the whole wide world
Just to find her
I'd call go the whole wide world, I'd call go the whole wide world
To find out where they hide her

I like this more each time I hear it..
bone-aching repetition...'I got a whole wide world' x 1000.  Unbearable.

First time i've ever heard anyone cover Wreckless Eric!

On hearing this cover again. I was thinking about the original single i have, and musing that it probably came as one of the 10 Single Stiff Box Set that i bought back in the late 70s.
I wasn't sure, so i looked it up, and sure enough, yes it did.
while i was at it i also discovered that Wreckless Eric is actually an Englishman. I always thought he was an Aussie. Funny 'ol game init?
Probably not a great sign when hearing a cover just makes you want to hear the original instead. Seems like Reckless Eric would be a great fit on RP, so how about playing the original instead?

I personally like when a musician is so moved by a song he/she covers it.

he's gonna be disappointed if he goes the whole wide world and finds out she's not on a sunsoaked beach but in a muddy hut in eastern Siberia.
His mugshot looks as disinterested as the music.  Not for me. Skip to Joe Strummer.  Result.

If I send you some spon can you send me a bottle?  I'm badly in need of a good night's sleep.

A bit flat. Not much of the wrecklessness left

I rather like both versions!

A bit drone-y for these ears.  I guess unattachment is a style these days.  No one believe in passion any longer?
I like the song and I like to be the first reviewer. October, 2 2021.
