YES!!   Especially in FLAC!   Also excellent through great studio phones, DAC & amp!

The older I get the more I appreciate the cello. I love this!
Excellent! For me it is revoking QOTSA acoustic version of Go With The Flow.
Most Excellent!
Gave this a 3 first time around. Not sure why. It's at least a six.

Wish he sounded like Zoe.

Something similar in marching band: A bazillion trumpets and clarinets. Low brass instruments are bigger and intimidating to little kids.
There's always room for cello.
If I had the talent to make a film. This would be the soundtrack.
This is a classic example of why I love RP!!!  I would never find or listen to this anywhere else.

Excellent tune, by the by.

It seems most funk tunes are written in 4/4 time, with the rhythm and syncopation being accentuated.
Rhythmic music ordinarily requires more than one beat per bar; a "1/4" time notation wouldn't indicate any sort of pulse other than the main beat and would be hard for a musician to interpret.  I guess a 1/4 notation could be used to indicate an additional beat at the end of a bar - like adding it to a bar of 6/8 to indicate where the beat comes in a 7/8 bar.
I agree, this sounds like 4/4, and is it a cool tune.
NICE! I never heard of her before. Thanx RP!

Keep an ear open for any of the 2Cellos songs on the RP playlist. Not sure if this is one of them but ....wow!

2CELLOS - Thunderstruck [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube

This is pretty.  A genre waiting to happen.  The opening section reminds me of the opening to the movie Fargo.

I agree, it's in 4/4, though the beat is stressed differently at various places.

Gosh that cello is so good.Im from North and it reminds me home
Nice Thanks
Thanks to Rebecca, BillG, and RP I have discovered an artist with a lot of material to work through... Chances are I will get through a lot of tedious academic record listening to Zoë...

Damn...

Don't B bootin' the cello player.
Rating under 7 would feel like an insult to any musician. This is an 7 for me.

Thank You
Seven League Boots - also a great song by this fabulous lady.
Come on Zoe, just call the song "The Unforgiven".  Anything else is just disingenuous.

Sounds like the Paul Winter Consort.
Brilliant!
Hmmm sounds like some work from GOT as well...
This one has definitely grown on me.  Thanks for sharing it, RP.

Yeah.  Yo mama.
I listen to this type of classical music all the time.  Google Kronos Quartet, they even did a cover of a Hendrix song, great SF adventurous group

That´s a clear "0"
went to youtube to watch this again, and it's just her, she records layers and builds them up with loops - very impressive.
Is the whole album this good?  Was going to buy just the track, but if it's all good, might get the whole album.

At first I thought this was Kronos Quartet, they do all adventurous music that they commission.  A great early one is Pieces of Africa.
I'm always pleasantly surprised when I go to trash a song's rating only to find out that I had already done so. Satisfies me that my first impression was spot on and pleases me that I had forgotten the song. (And hope to again soon.)
Ah, what a nice sound of cello{#Daisy}

Did what, play cello?
I see only two recording by Zoë Keating in the RP library!  That's gotta change!  Virtually everything she has recorded is this good.
Heard this song on a video game trailer recently and couldn't figure out why I recognized it. It was Radio Paradise all along!
How awesome is this??
GO ZOE

Love cello.  I, too, thought it was going was Apocalyptica.  Glad it's not.  Now I have a new artist to buy!

OK, buggered my right knee doing it - does that make it less pretentious?

Don't be ashamed of your achievements and don't feel constrained not to talk about them because people who haven't achieved take this piss.

Shit, now I'm sounding pretentious!

I too really thought this was going to be something by Apocalyptica!
Lost my own blind-test but this song's still good :)
Awful!

Worth seeking out youtube live performances. Very interesting artist.
hearing her music brings tears to my eyes because she just lost her husband to cancer.  but i am sure my sadness is not close to hers.  please send her loving and compassionate thoughts when you hear her music.

Me-thinks you have "borrowed heavily" from the Lannister's theme my sweet red vixen
Me like.
I can see why it might not be for everyone, but I dig it.  Creates an atmosphere of tension and foreboding.

I'd watch whatever it is.  Reminds me a little of the soundtrack Mogwai did for that French zombie drama The Returned.

Btw - Its fascinating to watch Zoe perform if you've never had the opportunity. The combination of live performance, cello, and computers is very interesting.
Can't think of an occasion when I would want to listen to this. It's just not interesting.

{#Roflol}

Hoisted by your own petard!

From what I can tell, Metallica isn't nearly as popular as it used to be. The drummer seemed especially snotty and obnoxious in their heyday.

This reminds in parts of Talking Heads' "Listening Wind" from "Remain in Light."

And now I'm hearing bits of the theme song to "Game of Thrones."

This is actually pretty cool in a warm, wood-paneled intense kind of way.
Sounds like a (boring) soundtrack to some Scandinavian TV drama
Very intense.  Love the energy!
Cellos are very interesting and depending on how and what they are "partnered with" can be very powerful sounding to me. The new Agnes Obel disk is also full of cello sounds.

Oh my lord here it is again lash out the Valium
Yep, just happened. 9 up to a 10. I figure I've been hearing it for over two years now, and still turn it up loud everytime and listen intently. Not many tracks do that upon 75+ listens.
Nearly as bad as Einaudi ...

I originally liked this.  Maybe it's my sampling rate, but I seem to hear this constantly on RP.   It's not wearing well for me with time.
The lady is a true artis'
+1

Went online to check if it was something from Apocalyptica that I didn't know... well it wasn't; but Zoe clearly sends a greeting to them with that bit of Unforgiven at the end.

All the instrumentation is cello. She plays through a sampler live and layers tracks on top of each other to build up the song. Basically, she's a one woman band. Not only is the cello capable of a wide range of sounds, but she is capable of pulling a lot out of the instrument.
This is terrible.. just, wow.. Gruesome.

it's the main instrumentation, and it's a cello.
If you crank this one up until it makes the windows pulse, it sounds really cool!

It is very doubtful something like this would ever go to court.  This song is not going to be the source of the kind of money it would take for anyone to want to pursue legal action.  George Harrison's hit song on the other hand....

This is a nice song by the way
Saw Ms. Keating at Dante's in Portland in '06 when she was opening for Imogen Heap.  I had no idea what to expect (Zoe who?), and was very pleasantly surprised and taken with her performance.  She played with Imogen on one or two songs as well, a superb collaboration.  A better double bill of one-woman bands I cannot imagine.

Very nice to hear her music on RP.
I just finished the last GOT book.  I can't believe GRRM got me again.  I need some new ones quick.

My Rating:  Pretty Damn Cool
Great new music and that's why I subscribe to RP.  I love to be surprised and amazed.
Heard this once before somewhere,  and had to scramble for my phone and RP app to find out who the f was driving that cello so hard! Great emotive stuff {#Cheers}

Love this blend of moody strings, Celtic percussion with shades of Africa, swirling around the musical globe.

Reminds me of The Piano Guys best work. Or vice versa.
Listening the opening bars I was almost sure it was Apocalyptica.
I have a cat named Zoe.  For some reason, she likes this.  It mellows her out.
The next G of T is still months away.
Seeing her next week in NYC. Very excited - last show was mind numbing!

Wow. Great technique and musicianship. Interesting composition. Nice production. Improves with another hearing (always a good sign).

7 -> 9.
Actually, this is quite awesome!!
Wonderful
now play some Maya Beiser

{#Arrowd} agree!
Wonderfully creative...cello is a magical instrument ...unprocessed even superior.
Mmmmmmm. Always stops me in my tracks.

Anybody else feel like she was on the verge of bursting into a metallica tune a couple of times there?

Yep - I believe I also heard an orchestral version of "Nothing Else Matters" ramping up...
I love this song more every time I hear it! Thanks for introducing me to her work.
More than half of a lifetime ago, Ms. Keating and I were both members of the Empire State Youth Orchestra.  I'm glad to see that she has been able to make a career with her cello.
Sounds as much like Lenny Kravitz's comical 'Fly Away' as it does Metallica's 'Unforgiven'. I like this tune a lot.
I listened carefully to this and enjoyed it fully, but if the tempo was picked up a few times (meaning 6) this would be a Great Rock and Roll Song. The spacing was good but...Rock it out..or not..
fun stuff, thanx bill.

Needs more clever screw drives in the intro.
Hard to believe that Jefferson Airplane rates higher than Ms. Zoe. Oh well, each to their own!
