The mighty, mighty meadow
With too many people
Suckin' all the water
And my daddy was a farmer
He was a racecar driver
He is a four leaf clover
He is the next messiah
Now he's living in the woods
The dark and dank woods
With a cocktail waitress
Who thinks she's an artist
Take it down to the river
Split it right up the middle
Now it's gonna be trouble
For a pregnant lamb and a con man
Now he's sick in the clink
With his head in the sink
And the tumor gonna make a
Man outta him
Now, my daddy was a chancer
He was a bad-check bouncer
But he beat that cancer
He's a survivor
He's the next messiah
He's the next messiah
He's the next messiah
He's the next messiah
Covering it up
Squeezing it out
Watching it bleed
You're watching it all
Taking it back
She's down on her knees
When did she come to detest you?
Giving it back
Backing you up
Nothing's for free
You're giving it back
For locking you up
Those terrible deeds
When will they come to arrest you?
When did she come to detest you?
When will they come to arrest you?
When did she come to detest you?

The dark and dank woods”
Leaves little doubt that this song truly is about the moose-iah.

Great imagery in these lyrics!
Love this song
I can never forget how I turned my best friend Kevin on to this CRANKED in his Jeep on our way to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse up at Red Rocks back in August of 2012... I'd already been jamming to it since '08 thanks to RP, but it absolutely blew him away, and we had to hear it again and again, which was fine by me! Love it! Great pre- rock-show party tune!
i love this!
this is my fav of hers. the whole album is great. i liked rilo kiley well enough, but this was what made me a huge fan of jenny's.
'mu' ssiah?
yes'm.
This is like, 3 different songs to me - all interesting but odd. :)
like some Beatles songs, right?
Noticed that too. Plus REM and U2.

Well try another mix or donate so you can play favorites, I've listened for 10 or more years, and they have enriched my life by exposing me to so much "new" music even if its older. Love RP that is why I donate. Long Live RP
I've noticed RP plays a lot of Robert Plant, Peter Gabriel and a handful of others. Not that there's anything wrong with these artists, but isn't it at the expense of playing other, less known acts?
Noticed that too. Plus REM and U2.
There's so much to explore, so why always play the same?
Shew has better tunes!
Is Shew a new band? Haven't heard of them, will check 'em out! Thanks!
There is a cosmic balance - had to turn the volume off.
Is there a negative volume? To make up for the part I had to hear?
This suckssssssssssssssss😡
Like it. A lot.

Update: I have it on LP and it's one of the best I have in my collection! I have to collect a few more of hers asap!
I Love Jenny but Blake Sennett was easily as important to that band. They will be missed. Here's hoping for a reunion.
RP made me a Jenny disciple and I thank you for that. (Purchased the disc with the Watson Twins via RP link the other day, so me and Jenny and the Twins have helped support the cause of quality ad free radio. Great disc.)
A decade later, still a 6.5. Fascinating
Up to 6.6!

I know, how is it that high?

long-ace song, man.
Your song on RP.

...jenny lewis, neko case, and patty griffin walk into a bar...
...right, so neko case, jenny lewis, and patty griffin are just settling down at their table together when jeff beck and imogen heap walk into the bar and proceed to kick the crap of them...
...jeff beck's such a total dick, beating up girls for no good reason...
Is there ever a good reason for beating up girls?
I like the incoherency of it, but the moosiah - I'm with ya on that!
The result demonstrates ambition & effort are insufficient.
You know what I don't hear?
Your song on RP.
Ah, I thought it was moo-siah!

I saw her again a few months ago, after seeing her TWICE on that 2014/15 tour; this song was always a highlight. Her band this time around didn't go as great a job on this song as the last band (I'm looking at YOU rhythm section)...

She was Karving her initials on the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands of an Oslo Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Mølars of Horst Nordfink"...

Indeed.
But they are all about some kind of moose.

Or repetition.

The three Mooseketeers!
Over and over and over.
I don't know... the way she and Blake Sennett seemed to riff off of one another in their song writing, to me, made the sum greater than the two (her solo and with various collaborators and him with The Elected) apart. It added a depth to Rilo Kiley that is not there with the other efforts. Admittedly, she has done better since the parting but I'm hoping we see them come back together some day.
Of course, all of this is probably true of most bands where the component parts went on to solo careers.

Not so much a cosmic balance as a negative reflection.

It's like two songs fighting to get free of each other.
I was wondering what everyone was going on about, and then the song changed.... I see now {and it reminds me to have the hubris to wait until the end of the track before commenting}. Not sure it's a bad as many are making out though. there are many 'classics' by certain people/bands that are far worse than this! a 5 or 6 for now.
The promised one who will rescue mooses (or meese, if you prefer) from oppression and servitude and deliver them to moose heaven. See comments below.
That's what I get for making a drive-by comment.
