Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Enjoy the silence

A German band, called Texas Lightning, covering the English band Depeche Mode, in the style of, uh, the style of, uh, maybe Western Swing (ish?).
Whatever the heck it is, I like it.

Interestingly, during the civil war most all of the German immigrants fled to Texas to get away from the worst part of the battles. This is why you will find a ton of German named towns all over Texas. Some of the public schools even teach German since there are still a lot of German families in Texas.
Well, there's a cover that nobody asked for.
Well, here's an opinion nobody asked for. Great, they found their way in here. Thanks to the Goldsmiths and paradisiacal crew for their opinions good for looking out of the box.
Looking at the band arranged by height on the album cover I find myself not surprised they are German.
Definitely see your point. The perfectly enunciated words are also a bit off-putting. There's no twang or swing to the pronunciation--unusual for a western-style arrangement.
Germans in western garb is a bit jarring. The get it but they don't get it. Studiously imitative tourism. But this a fun take on Depeche Mode!
WHY WHY WHY did they destory that song!
Destroy?
Lighten up, people! This is kinda fun! They are good musicians and have good pitch! Putting a nice authentic spin on for a cover.
Agree. this is totally allowed!
UndT FrÀ Germany!!

The Germans don't seem to understand the text, or why do they interpret it in a cheerful way?
Jane Comerford is Australian. So i think English is her native language.

Same...I don't know what to do here, so i won't rate it.
It is quite a feat to do something pleasurable from a song by Depeche Mode.

It's normal for fuddy duddy americans to criticise DM. They probably don't even know that this band inspired the East german resistance!
A German band doing a country cover of a British band. Nice

Or maybe a cross between TP and Brian Ferry?
Old Depeche Mode "fan" as well ~ this just hits a different Mood.
That's the attitude, xray38!! And as a soft core DM fan, I can say I recognize the DM song in this, and might like this better at certain times (like now) - call it a 7.4 for now...Long Live RP!!

The Spice Girls have better taste.
That was a cheap shot :-)

Crossed with Warren Zevon.
Then do not listen, that is why there is a skip feature!

Painful to me also, listening to this

Amen!
Hear hear! This is a very nice cover, an easy 7 for me!

Not just you.
This cover is in the middle for me. It's not bad, but if I never heard it again I wouldn't care. Someone asked why a band would do a cover like this. My guess is they liked the song and "because they can". I can't imagine anyone thinking the song was going to take off in any meaningful way.

Nope. Tons of Depeche Mode on RP.

Normally I'm all for Bill's selection of covers, but this is just WEIRD.
But if you'd heard this version first, you might consider Depeche Mode's version weird.
This works. I wouldn't want a prolonged diet of C&W covers of DM but this is alright.

If I had never heard the original, I may have given this a 6.
But this will go down as a failed cover song.

This makes me think of the band Luther Wright and the Wrongs, and their cover of the entire album The Wall by Pink Floyd. The whole thing was done in a bluegrass style; it was quite surreal. I highly recommend checking it out!

Hahaha!
