I can't tell you anything you don't already know
I keep on trying, I should just let it go
I keep on singing, your eyes they just roll
It sounds like someone else's song
From a long time ago
You already know the story, the chords are just the same
You already know I love you and I sound like what's-his-name
But you can't stop me, I want you to know
I know it sounds like someone else's song
From a long time ago

Heavy feels in this one. One of my all-time favorites of this band and of Tweeds
Such a mighty fine album.
It's a confluence of Uncle T, Dylan, Billy Bragg, Willie, and then all the trippy stuff.

a good indicator of a highly rated song is that it stops what you are doing and makes you listen, and to look up the artist and comments. And then to read at the lyrics. This is a fine example.

Great, a Leonard Cohen song I haven't heard! Wait.
Quite Cohen-esque.
That was most welcome an made me grin from ear to ear. Much Grass!

So John Prine. And that is superb.
So nice to hear the lesser-played gems from great albums like this.
Thanks AGAIN RP!
Thanks AGAIN RP!
First I heard this one. Now on my list to buy when I'm back in Canada.
I too saw Jeff solo back in Jan 2014, Santa Barbara. I was mesmerized, great show. Lyrics are so much more meaningful when dealt acoustic. Woody Guthrie lives on.
Well I lucked in tonight with RP - perfectly matching my mood, I mean perfectly! Doesn't happen so often, but when it does, it's such a thrill. I guess that's why.

Johnson is recovering from cancer surgery that saved his life - but says mentally adjusting is hardest part

Love it! Wilco is an enigma to me, they can be sooo good and soooo bad!

From what might be my favorite Wilco album - this was the first album of theirs that I bought and listened to.
Non-stop brilliance.
Non-stop brilliance.
Saw Jeff perform solo in Santa Barbara last month. Solid show.
Play some Uncle Tupelo! They had three great albums and Jeff T. is good on all of them.
has anyone tried uploading anything from Jackie Green?
this reminds me of him, or vice-versa.

This song reminds me of another song. Same chords. Singing reminds of that singer, your know what's his name? I can't put my finger on it as I heard it a long time ago. I do remember the b string in the guitar was in tune. That's different here.

Strictly listening to this musically, i absolutely love it, it really fits me...
Strictly listening to this lyrical-wise, i can't help but laugh with a certain sad undertone...
Listening to this as a whole, i still really love it, it's a solid 9 for me!

Someone Else's Song... yep, I'm hearing Willie's "Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain". Interesting to read the connections listeners have made to other songs as well, all valid. If Wilco was going for familiarity on this one, they nailed it.
"I sound like whatshisname". As the old saying goes, "I'll never forget whats-his-name".
A soporific lullaby, fine for insomniacs . Wilco and out.

Great therapy tune for me whilst being dumped by know-it-all, never-satisfied girlfriend. I wasn't playing what she wanted: to hear someone else's song.

Someone else might be Hank Williams.
Wilco channels Lucinda Williams. Or vice versa, I suppose. = )

Nice segue from "Heart of Saturday Night." A couple of loooonley songs.
Right now it's grey outside my window with leaves and garbage whipping around in the wind. This completes the mood.

Funny, "The Heart of Saturday Night" (released in 1974 and I've listened to it often enough in the intervening years), and "Someone else's song" (booooorrrrrinnnng) is why I am turning RP off today — and why I rarely come back anymore.
Goodbye
anyone else here playing the game "Team Fortress 2"? :)
(and if you like computergames, you should be! :)
see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i68cEsALWt0 if you wonder why i come up with this :O
This band is such a yawner.
This band always sounds waaay over medicated. Do they still sell Valium?

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Sounds a bit Springsteen-ish to me, circa "Nebraska". Therefore, I love it.
Nice !

This earthier, early sound is the Wilco I fell in love with. Being There is easily one of the best albums of the 1990's.
Thanks! Love it.

I love Wilco because they opened the world of music up for my wife who was musically stuck in the 70s.
Sort of a "gateway drug" for her.
That's funny b/c it was the first music my (now) wife introduced me to from her collection, and it did the same for me. That was 6 years ago. I was 21 and was stuck in the 60's/70's. I still love that music, but now I see that there is (some) good music being made today. This album holds a special place in my heart, and I would agree that it's one of the best from the 90's. AMG gives it 4.5/5 and an AMG album Pick: https://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hxfoxqlhldje
Thought it was John Prine before I looked.
I thought I didn't care for Wilco, but this is nice.

This song is brilliant in its simplicity. Tweedy, you need to get back to this instead of the Krautrock influenced stuff of late.
You might like the new disc then. I love all Wilco, but the latest definitely seems to be a move away from the more experimental trend and back to a little more traditional style.
this makes me feel like gathering up some good friends for some laughter and wine...

Good lyrics,it's a song writers song.
the subject reminds me of Gillian Welch's One Little Song
this makes me think of Derek

this song is way too short. play it again! and again!
60's folk music by any other name . . .
This is not an insult, just an observation.
I quite like it.
Wow, positive feedback for a great band. Must be all new listeners. Don't you know that you are supposed trash ALL good music here?
I love Wilco because they opened the world of music up for my wife who was musically stuck in the 70s.

song a 9, Wilco a godlike 10
I saw Wilco play live for the first time a few weeks ago. They were so much better than I had expected!!
Let's bump this up to a 9 shall we?
Being There is easily one of the best albums of the 1990's.
Absolutely. I even think of it as one of the strongest American rock albums ever. For me the brilliance is in their homage to their musical influences. Each song seems styled after an influence, yet the sound is still Wilco, not regurgitated or rehashed at all. It's one of those albums with endless depth.
i'm giving it a nine because no one else did - and they deserve it.....
Great song from a phenomenal album.
God I love Wilco. This guy is so pure to his thoughts. The first album I bought of their's and still my favorite. Great album to listen to driving in the country (if you're near it). Ah, gotta go up to the country tomorrow. Guess what's in the dash? Yup.
My upload! Yet another great song from this great, great band.
