Smile down on us, sun
Show your rays when things come undone
All animals lead us to light
When we can't see

Stars, Saturn and moon
Glow for those who cannot get through
Rain fall and voice sound
For those of whom still are not found

Gentle moon
Find us soon
Gentle moon
Find us soon

Black sky and black sea
Lighten up when we can't breathe
All dreams escape fire
Over worlds, fly but won't tire

Slow down on us, wind
Hold us still when everything spins
All secrets and lies
Let them out

Dreams escape fire
They won't tire
Dreams escape fire
They won't tire

Gentle moon
Find us soon
Gentle moon
Find us soon

All calendars pass
Days die off and hope cannot last
But if love is like stone
Yours was mine through to my bones

Oh, but how can we give
Back to those with whom we can't live?
When will the flame break
And spare the good people it takes?

Souls escape fire
They rise higher
Souls escape fire
They rise higher

Gentle moon
Find us soon
Gentle moon
Find us soon

Is this the dude from Red House Painters?

Yes, he is
I love everything Mark has ever done - going back to Red House Painters.
I've seen him over here in the UK a few times with Sun Kil Moon.

I don't hear him very often here on RP - wish you played more

I love it....juste like Red House Painters or SWELL....from the same période and same place.....

Ahhhh, finally, to hear Mark on RP. It IS a perfect radio station.
A predictably whiny song coming from a self-righteous crybaby. Bill, please drown this out with a rollicking tune from The War on Drugs!

What a great album.
Very cruisey
Good thing the lyrics are here, or I would never have known what any of them are.
There is a house in New Orleans...
I hear bits of this in Ray LaMontagne's Airwaves. Nice tunes both.
Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters/Mark Kozelek-Love this man's music. So talented.

fine words (sad singer though)
How dreary! Made me want to fill a bath with warm water and search out a straight razor.

reply to this comment from bindi, September 12, 2005:  I would really, really love to hear someone making negative comments about this or any other song offer an alternative - what is it? Freebird? Smoke on the Water? Let us know where you are coming from.

..........................................

That is freaking hilarious!

awful, whiny, dreary, depressing. Was relieved when it finished. Spoilt an otherwise great playlist.
..fairly powerful stuff..

No I think that Radio Paradise claims to be an Eclectic Station, but if you don’t care for this type of thing you may be happier listening to a Rock Station.
His voice is haunting.

Neil Young-like! Nice tune!
simply beautiful. a perfect song!

Slow country.  Very twangy.

me likey.  me likey a lot.
Every time I hear this I like it.  I finally went and looked at the lyrics ..... what majestic poetry.  I think I'm going to Amazon now to buy this for my wife for Christmas.

I've gotta wait a few years. My daughter is still into Hannah Montana. It's OK! I used to like Judas Priest (yes there is a Sun Kil Moon reference in there).
If this is new to you and you like it, you must check out the other work of Mark Kozelek. I've listened to his music (solo/Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon) for over ten years and I'm never disappointed.

Never heard this band before. Really like them. Had the weird feeling that if Brian Wilson hadn't taken his radical tumble into the weeds he might have sung songs like this.
It's made of members from 'Red House Painters'. That voice is hard to miss. I like it.

Yes indeed! It has that "relaxed" quality behind it where the artist took their time in composing a piece that flows "with" you instead of "against" you.

Great CD! One song, Salvador Sanchez, I just couldn't swallow, but the rest of the CD I've listed to again, and again! Tiny Cities - Sun Kil Moon's CD full of Modest Mouse covers was really good too. Be leery of the Red House Painters though. I was so excited when I bought this CD I got some of his earlier work, and couldn't listen to the cd more than a couple times.
Go back and listen to RHP's a few more times. It took me a few listens, but now I love (most of) their stuff. But then again, I love Salvador Sanchez.

I thought that this was Ron Sexsmith. Surprise. Very nice surprise indeed. I'm going to have to search out this album.

It's interesting... there is maybe only one other person I know who sees the incredible beauty that is in this CD, and it is my music partner. It must be an aquired taste... or maybe it just takes someone a little "off" to appreciate this. Personally, this CD is SO rich, so full of honest emotion... the perfect companion for a long drive, especially if you're fortunate enough as I have been to enjoy that long drive down the California coast with someone you care about. Sometimes the lyrics take over, but other times the meloncholy music comes to the forefront. All in all, this is definitely my favorite CD of the last few years at this point. I think I will upload salvador sanchez and glenn tipton from this CD too. For those who have found this song appealing, I can't recommend buying it enough... it really is that good of a CD, IF you like this song. If you don't like it, no problem, Pearl Jam is coming up in a minute or two.

I don't know about that. This song is definately moaned/whined. Not saying all of that is bad, or not signing, but come on.
This Album is great, But the New Album is Just Ok. Unless you have never heard of Modest Mouse before. Being an avid fan of modest mouse I do not like the new album because all it is is cover songs from "A Lonesome Crowded West". Though it is growing on me, it's not original. BUT I STILL LOVE SUN KIL MOON!!!!
Nick Drake must be an influence
Sigh. Most excellent. Especially for that chill, mid-afternoon moment.
Very likeable - would be outstanding with a soulful female harmony similar to some of the best Neil Young songs.

Man, that kid's got some big ears!
And his/their new CD comes out November 1 - yippee, can't wait.
Haunting. Thank you R.P. so much for introducing me to Sun Kil Moon. Great, great stuff. Carry Me Ohio!!!! Bring it back!!!!!!!!
Man, I hate to bum out a few of the people below, but from what I have heard, I love these guys. I would really, really love to hear someone making negative comments about this or any other song offer an alternative - what is it? Freebird? Smoke on the Water? Let us know where you are coming from. From what I gather there is a Redhouse Painters connection? How about Jay Ferrer - sounds like him too. I know little about this band except what RP has played - and I wholeheartedly thank them for that.

perhaps I'm not in the right mood for this, it just sounds sleep-inducing
Maybe next time someone will put the mike near his mouth. Or better yet - farther away. How dreary especially with the Guitar 101 strumming.
What a sensible voice. Fragile, full of emotion ...
Is this the dude from Red House Painters?

Y'know, physicsgenius, I'm pretty sure you're listening to a different station than the rest of us. :nodhead: Great tune, distinctive (and pleasant) voice, well played. I'll give it an 8....and it might go up from there.
Wow, they surely know how to create a lovely, magical atmosphere! First time I hear this band and I'm (already) very impressed. I love the subtle instrumentation and smooth sung melody. Lyrical. Only a top production can make this possible, so compliments for the producer/studio as well.

Well, how about that... another RP inspired purchase... just ordered the CD... using the RP link, of course... thanks Bill!!
Neil...? Neil, is that you...?
