Lonely feeling deep inside
Find a corner where I can hide
Silent footsteps crowding me
Sudden darkness but I can see

No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me

Dat'n-doo-dow-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow

In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements where I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I'm falling from her skies

No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me

Dat'n-doo-dow-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow

Jocko says, "Yes" and I believe him
When we talk about the things I say
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him
When they're standing in each other's way

You're tripping back now to places you've been to
You wonder what you're gonna find
You know you've been wrong but it won't be long
Before you leave 'em all far behind

'Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new Splendid lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
She's gettin' us all, she's gettin' us all

Jocko said, "No" when I came back last time
It's looking like I lost a friend
No use callin' 'cause the sky is fallin'
And I'm getting pretty near the end

A smoke-filled room in a corner basement
The situation must be right
A bag of goodies and a bottle of wine
We're gonna get it on right tonight

'Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new Splendid Lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
She's gettin' us all, she's getting' us all

Jocko says, "Yes" and I believe him
When we talk about the things I say
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him
When they're standing in each other's way

You're tripping back now to places you've been to
You wonder what you're gonna find
You know you've been wrong and it won't be long
Before you leave 'em all far behind

'Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new Splendid lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
She's gettin' us all, she's gettin' us all

Dat'n-doo-dow-dow

Dat'n-doo-dow-dow

Not in Canada but certainly in terms of international recognition.

How did those young stoners figure out how to do this so well?
Artfully crafted pop of the highest order with tasty guitar and drums.
class. me likie
great track. really noticed and appreciated the drums this listen
Tomorrow is Marijuana Legalization Day here in Canada.
It's the new Mother Nature taking over....

                                                         BURTON CUMMINGS

A GREAT Band
shutting off the screens and sitting back. great medley
Bachman and Cummings wrote some tasty stuff together.  Kind of like a Canadian 'Lennon and McCartney'.

Thanks for the Canadian memories.

"Blue Collar" had some tasty guitar pickin'.

I highly recommend Randy's show.  If you love the history of rock 'n roll and contemporary popular music.
A classic.

That Fadeout at the end was a complete slaughter. Although I can whistle just  as passionately to Rain in the Summertime! Thank God I'm in the office alone.

Speakers Up!

MORE BURT!!!!!!!

The Guess Who has a fantastic catalog of stuff that fits right in with the openminded RP crowd. I'd suggest stuff from the Road Food album as a start.

I think that is great advice !

This is one of those songs that define an era.  To hear it is to know, more or less instantly, when it was first played.

"Dat'n-doo-dow-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow-dow
Dat'n-doo-dow"

Yes indeed....definitely defines an era.  {#Cowboy}

Guess Who.

Who?

No, Guess Who.

What?

No, not what.  Who.  Guess Who.

I'm trying to guess.  I can't think who, just tell me.

Guess Who.

Go to hell.

Like the Beatles' "Day in the Life" this is two songs - one by Burt and one by Randy - that happened to be in the same key so they smashed them together. New Mother Nature is Burt's part, IIRC.

I'm not sure if very many bands who were popular during the late 1960s and early '70s would really be playing very enjoyably thirty years later - especially at a casino in Lake Tahoe.

That was my thinking when I watched Townsend and Daltrey at the Super Bowl halftime four years ago. They tried but you got the feeling that Daltrey had forgotten to sing and Townsend just didn't have much energy anymore. I had to explain to a friend in his late 20s that in its prime, the band was one of the most exciting live acts around.

Some bands can still do it. I hear the Stones are like that.
wow, is this dated! their stuff, along with others like Grand Funk Railroad is best forgotten

This song also takes me back to high school, but there's another story connected to it.  When my daughter was an older child (she's now 26), this song came on the radio, and I said something like, "Oh, it's the Guess Who."  She said, "Who?"  I said (and had to explain) that The Guess Who is the name of the band!

Freedom Rock? Turn it up!

Go Winnipeg!
whats up with the "tired old classic rock station" today?
I remember hearing this, long after American Woman had been all over the radio, and thinking, hey, there is more to explore with this band!
"Eclectic radio" indeed.  Bravo!

Never understood why these guys ever got popular.

Really good bridges in any song can send it over the moon for me.  This bridge is definitely one of the best ones.  (Another one that gets me is the bridge in the middle of Indigo Girls 'Ghost'.)
You are welcome for my fellow Canucks Burton and the boys, as well as Neil, Leonard, Joni, Gordon (Lightfoot), Daniel (Lanois)...the list goes on...

"Give me The Guess Who. They got the courage to be drunken buffoons, which makes them poetic."
Forgot just how good these guys were!
Takes me back to a great place....  Thank you, again, RP!
What an incredible Rock voice !
A very underrated group, at least in the UK.
I can only imagine a music  lover in todays world smart enough to listen to RP, hear this for the first time and going  Who is this Guess Who? I like them. andthen turn it into a screaming version of shit
Caught them on the way up at a high school dance.

WOW!

Or maybe Talisman.
Yes this song does bring back memories.
Played this song in a band I was in while in the Navy.  Memories....
Senior year of high school...everything these guys did was golden and imprinted on my mind forever.

A version played at a winery near me sans Cummings and Bachman.  Another original member has rights to the name by accident.

Would be up for seeing a reunion with BC and RB, meanwhile I am planning on picking up Running Back Thru Canada.

Must have seen these guys 20 times. Saw them in a church basement once back in early days. They were great and the band was tight. After Bachman they continued to bring in fine guitar players.

Number one booty shakin song for me of all times!!{#Drummer}

Rated it an 8, but was probably taking the entire album as a whole. Love this collection.

Quite possibly the coolest rock and roll song......evah!!!! 9->10!{#Bananajam}
Haircuts by Burton's mom with her new E-Z-Klip-500!

I enjoy the Guess Who... but you gotta admit, that is one dorky looking album cover!

I have no idea why this is never played.  Since it's a 10 and all
Maybe it's too commercial/oldies station.  I hate to think it's just because a cool song being played by the most uncool looking band ever is irreconcilable.

Great way-back stretch. Top 40 staple in the day (1970?). This and "Hand Me Down World" and "American Woman".
