Scarlet sky
Living clouds
My blinded eye
Waters black
Wood in snow
Dead of night
How bright you glow
Breathe in, breathe out
Exhale and inhale
Exhale and inhale
Seven sins
God of stone
All is true
Down to the bone
Feather moon
Scarlet sky
I love you endlessly
Not knowing why
Exhale and inhale
Exhale and inhale...
For those unhappy with the repetitiveness of this song, that is partially the point, according to what Teng has said in concerts. She said her mother is among those who have complained about the chorus of "Breathe in... Breathe Out.. Exhale"
Vienna has a new album coming out this fall. But recently, she graduated from the University of Michigan's Erb Institute – a joint program of the school's natural resources and business schools to develop sustainable projects that make economic sense. In part to celebrate her graduation, she played a live concert on her porch last month - and I was among those lucky enough to be present. I brought along my digital recorder, "taped" the concert and put a link to it on my blog: https://playitandbedamned.blogspot.com
Thank you for sharing. I really like her music.
Just took in her sold out 90 minute matinee performance at Jammin' Java
in Vienna, Va. today 4/22/2023. Last evening's and this evening's shows
also sold out. She pretty much played songs from all her albums. She
mentioned that she is immersing herself into music again, working
towards a new album and going on a tour which you can see listed on her
website. Very enjoyable performance. I wouldn't have known she existed
if it weren't for RadioParadise. Thank you!
You Lucky Duck! I wish I could have been there too! RP also introduced me to her. Thanx RP!

During my father’s last days, I found myself matching his breathing as I watched him sleeping in his hospital bed. I was so focused on his breath, for as long as he was breathing, he was still with me. The chorus of this song isn’t repetitive to me; it’s beautiful.
Yea... I did that with my mom with her at her last few breaths.

Decades ago a close friend was dying and I don't know how I ended up with a book called Who Dies by Stephen Levine. I think I probably just saw it lying out in a bookstore. I didn't remember much of the book, but synchronizing my breath and just being with the person who's dying was something that stuck with me. Throughout the ordeal I practiced the same with his sister who is also a close friend. She has often commented that it was the most useful thing to her at that time to have someone around who wasn't trying to do anything, just being with her.

Am very glad she quit her day job. Her music is wonderful.
It also shows. Who else can write a song like "The Hymn of Acxiom"?

WTF is this supposed to mean?

I agree wholeheartedly!
The range of volumen and the composition of all elements, from drums to voices, are wonderful.
She is a joy to listen to generally, but this song is especially well-made.

I think she's also a practicing Buddhist, and that has probably put her in touch with the being-ness of breath. Quite a few of her songs have strong spiritual threads in them.

Twas a great show. My first time seeing her, but it was apparent that many in the audience had seen quite a few of her Freight & Salvage shows...
Good advice. I plan to see one of her early January 2019 shows there. I wonder how many in her audience discovered her on RP, like me!?

The vocals are not that bad but the piano and orchestration is superb!

The Beethoven that preceded it was more exciting.
No. No she doesn't. Ever.

Riding through the mountains last week it would have been perfect to have had this on my tunes list.

He just got that a couple of years ago, but it is cool.
Tony Banks of Genesis fame has a degree in physics if I recall.
As for Ms. Teng, voice like an angel.
Dang it! Why can't Dr. May help invent FTL so we can get off this miserable rock of a planet!
Am very glad she quit her day job. Her music is wonderful.
I'm pretty sure she has a masters degree in making my willy pulse.

Pretty sure she has gone back to the University Of Michigan to get a master's in sustainable housing or something similar, all the while composing and maintaining a touring career. Impressive woman.
I believe Brian May, guitarist of Queen has a PhD in astrophysics

Phil Alvin, formerly of the Blasters, has a PhD from UCLA—I think it's in mathematics. Tom Scholz, pretty much the driving force behind the band Boston, has a bachelor's and master's from MIT in Mechanical Engineering. He's also the inventor of the Rockman guitar amplifier.
Actually, the Rockman is an effects box versus an amplifier per se. I own a Rockman and, when I wish, sound just like Tom Scholz. That said, Vienna Teng sounds nothing like Phil Alvin,Tom Scholz, or his fabled Rockman. Jes sayin'...

I said of her level.

I'd read about her getting an MBA. Michigan is a great program. I cannot think of any other performer of her level with an MBA, or similar degree. Smart chick.

Yeah, I've always done it in the reverse order. Glad I heard this song!

Saw her for the first time this past weekend, I knew about the MBA but I never fully realized what a nerd she was until after some of her banter with the audience. It's just not right for someone to have so much talent on that many different fronts.

Ha ha! An excellent comment Mr Ray.
I would never buy something like this. . . but today, this track is marvellous. Sometimes one has to wait for certain tracks played on RP to hit. . . today it did. Thank you.
It's my choice to let the world wear me down, or perhaps the sum of many small choices. I can make different ones.
So often it's the little choices that have the biggest impact on our lives. Keep moving forward!

It's power comes from presentation rather than logic of words or brilliance of music.
The power of softness can reach places force can never glimpse.

Wonderful song!
Very special indeed!

Thanks for this one this morning, RP.

you're a sick MF'er aren't ya
No, he's just a kid.

I lekker more with licker!
I for one have been at a point where I could only breathe in and breathe out and nearly needed instruction for that.
Almost sure it was "watershed" at the begining....:-)

I would have put money on this being Tori. I really like this...I need to check out more of her stuff, as I am a fan of Tori's stuff, especially the earlier stuff.
