Pretty little hairdo don't do what it used to
Can't disguise the living
All the miles that you've been through

Looking like a train wreck
Wearing too much makeup
The burden that you carry
Is more than one soul could ever bear

Don't look so sad, Marina
There's another part to play
Don't look so sad, Marina
Save it for a rainy day
Save it for a rainy day
Save it for a rainy day

You neve make your mind up
Like driving with your eyes shut
Rough around the edges
Won't someone come and take you home

Waiting for a breakthrough
What will you set your mind to?
We stood outside the Chinese restaurant
in the rain

Don't look so sad, Marina
There's another part to play
Don't look so sad, Marina
Save it for a rainy day
Save it for a rainy day
Save it for a rainy day

Today here where I live, in Curitiba, Brazil, it is raining and when I hear this song I remember things I liked to do with an old girlfriend after we had soup in an old restaurant that no longer exists, like that love she had for me, which is now also over, but I still remember with great affection when we walked hand in hand with the light rain falling on us and how our hearts smiled at each other and at the beauty of the falling rain...
This is where my Jayhawks journey started!
I quite liked it until the harmonica came in on a horrible dissonance.
Nice song if I hear it again on RP will give it an 8
As a sailor, I will agree that most marinas look glum on a rainy day.
kinda an alter ego song to townes van zandt's loretta. great song.

My vote is for any day it rains in Ararat, VIC, Australia.

You mean like...Riders on the Storm??

Like a Midwest Crowded House. Not comparing the music song against song as much as over all quality of writing, production values and super-tight composition. Tell me again why they're not famous?

Excellent question.
The refrain looks same as Rainy Day from The Corrs.

You don't want to go to war... with the Raaaaams... don't stop, don't stop, no we don't stop!
As for this band and this song..... they are, and it is, EXCELLENT.

He's a graphic designer, so it's in his strike zone. Still, ya gotta wonder why he bothers to get up in the morning...

awww —- This song song makes me sad and happy at the same time. I remember REALLY getting into Jayhawks songs back in 2002 back during the tech bust when I was searching for work and a "Reason to Be". This song is so nostalgic to me, then and now.
I loves me some Jayhawks...{#Bounce}

Yup. I was pleasently surprised to find out that this entire album (Songs for a Rainy Day) was just as good as any of the cuts played on RP. One of their earlier albums (Hollywood Town Square) didn't impress me as much, however. Not as consistent.

As yet another opinion, I found this album—while quite enjoyable—to have kind of a sameness. Whereas Hollywood Town Hall is my favorite Jayhawks album, with more variety of sound.

But as to the original question, yes, picking up a full Jayhawks album is well worth it.

Tommorow the Green Grass and Blue Earth are awesome. I was not as impressed with Hollywood Town Hall. In fact on Blue Earth - they did an alternate (first version) of the song Two Angels.

Reminds me of Wilco - and in a good way, I might add. . .

I'm thinkin' Bob might like this.........
Marina!
Rainy day today. Works ok.

Does anyone know the original release date? Amazon link says 2003 for "this version."

2003 is correct. It was released on American/Lost Highway. American re-released it in 2006. Dunno about the "version" tho'. Only one that I know of.

This song's hook stays with me more than any other Jayhawks's tune..with the possibly the exception of "Blue"..I miss these guys..

Such a fitting comment from Misterfixit
Once again...
This track has a mixing glitch 8 bars in from the front. Either that or the data track on RP's machine is skipping. Other than that, I think this is fairly ho-hum. They are pretty proficient, however and this track is good listening for driving and elevating.
This song doesn't match the icy snow outside.
*sigh* Just not my style. Whiney. Guess there have to be a few 3's in my list.

I discovered this band on RP and liked their music a lot. Last year I bought "Tomorrow the Green Grass." It's a very nice album that I can recommend. Worth the money.

Yes, twice, they put on a great show. It was particularly good to see Gary Louris and Mark Olson back together.

I've been hearing more from the Jayhawks lately. Excellent!
This song feels like it would fit on Grateful Dead's American Beauty.
This is quite cheerful, earthy, genuine.
This is a really sweet little song.
I guess anyone can read anything into anything, including Star Trek geeks. C'mon, people. Get a life!

Anyone ever wonder if this is about Marina Sirtis? You know,"...there's another part to play..." etc. Just a thought...
OMG...yes! From the first listen. So glad to know I'm not the only one. I always associate Marina with this song. Haven't seen her lately...hope she finds that part.
This is one of those bands nobody has ever heard of but if they have, they have all their CDs. First song I ever heard of theirs was their cover of Grand Funk's "Bad Time." Hooked ever since.
I've seen these guys play live twice and they put on a great show and play small clubs, so adds to the experience. I actually prefer the live version of this off of Live From The Women's Club.

I really like the Jayhawks, saw them at SXSW a couple of years ago. Having said that, tho, this song has been completely beaten to death by the local alt station, KGSR. Play something else by them, for this is truly a case of too much of a good thing.
be careful of what you complain about. the local alt station here dosen't even know who the jayhawks are!
Ever see the old movie "Sunset Boulevard"? I think that's what they're singing about.
Can't help it - gotta sing along the chorus: So saaaaaaad There's a-no-ther part to plaaaaaay So saaaaaaad Uuuuuuuu-uuuuuu

great song by one of my favourite bands...I hope to hear more of them in the next couple of years, in one way or another..
Sounds like a nice song, but a drab live cover.
Have been a fan for years-new album is great. Thanks for playing this.
Feels like The Byrds, great :) I like 'em

Ooh! I *love* this -- I get to go see them in September -- the day after my birthday! I can\'t wait! (And better yet, the headliner is Lucinda Williams!) Hooray!
more i hear it, more i liiiikkkkke it!!!!! :) :D
To me, the jayhawks are like an old, comfy sweater. just right.
The whole CD is amazing!!! Great inspiring music!!
More! Please sir, may I have another?
Definitely enjoying the new tunes from the Jayhawks... thanks for playing them. i respond to them sort of like I do The Doves. I find nothing terribly flashy or spectacular about their music, but it\'s really nice to listen to.
I love this song - the whole sound is so appealing to me.
