Water was running, children were running
You were running out of time
Under the mountain, a golden fountain
Were you praying at the Lares shrine?
But, oh, your city lies in dust, my friend
We found you hiding we found you lying
Choking on the dirt and sand
Your former glories and all the stories
Dragged and washed with eager hands
But, oh, your city lies in dust, my friend
Hot and burning in your nostrils
Pouring down your gaping mouth
Your molten bodies blanket of cinders
Caught in the throes
And your city lies in dust
You were running out of time
Under the mountain, a golden fountain
Were you praying at the Lares shrine?
But, oh, your city lies in dust, my friend
We found you hiding we found you lying
Choking on the dirt and sand
Your former glories and all the stories
Dragged and washed with eager hands
But, oh, your city lies in dust, my friend
Hot and burning in your nostrils
Pouring down your gaping mouth
Your molten bodies blanket of cinders
Caught in the throes
And your city lies in dust

A bit of linguistic trivia: in Scots and Irish Gaelic 'ban-sith' translates as fairy woman, though Gaelic fairies are a lot more fearsomr and frightening than Tinker Bell ;-)
fyi sioux city iowa has really good sarsaparilla
and sarsaparilla isnt easy to spell, let me tell ya

I wonder if they've ever played Sioux City, Iowa or Sioux Falls, S. Dakota?
But I don't think Banshees are native to either city. Go figure.
She would have to go solo.

The original 9:30 club or the much bigger newer one? If the former, you had no where to hid for sure.
Siouxsie Sioux aka Susan Janet Ballion is rather amazing. Fierce and fiery much like Chrissie Hynde with whom I have limited personal experience. Was taken down a peg or two by her at the 9:30 Club in DC for taking pictures during her performance with the Pretenders. She mock posed for me onstage so I could finish the photo shoot. Would not care to get into an argument with either out of massive respect for both.

Not heard this for ages. Got an original 12" single. Old fashioned fat/deep groove; bass just kicks. Great track. Thanks RP.

Saw them at an outdoor venue at night in Florida. Also found an ice pick on the ground. Kept for a couple of decades in my toolbox.

great tune, rate 9
I love their version of Dear Prudence!
Always liked this band
Siouxsie was breaking ground for other female artists back in the day, was lucky enough to see her at a small club.
The chorus effect on the bass in this song is lovely. damn good band.
So great... takes us back to those insane, awesome, early days in LA!
Thank you so much Markybx for showing us that ravaged cities are not just an ancient phenomenon to be acknowledged in our songs.
tempted to add this to my holiday play list, my friend
Try to find this on vinyl. pert near impossible.
Love it. Takes me back to the WLIR in the 80s.

Excellent choice.
Compliments to the chef.

A new drug called city & bells passed the FDA evaluation.
She is among one of the real artists of the late 70s-early 80s alt/punk scene. Her heavily mascara-laden jet black, goth appearance probably hindered her merchantability, but garnered support among the "tell-it-like-it is" underground cogniscenti. She's still as hot as she ever was. Rock on Siouxsie Sioux!

WOW, did I really see Siouxsie & the Banshees back in 79 at the Grey Hound in Croydon!!!!
This song simply moves me, obviously since 80's
mesmerizing..
Still outstanding. Still sounds great, not dated at all. (avoid the remixes)

The Godmother of Goth
Nice 80's sound!
This tune has a permanent spot on my Android.
Always worth having a look at Siouxie. . . reminds me of Mrs Poacher.
Perhaps her peak, and a 9+ tune.
Looking for a representation of GOOD 80's rock: this is it!
So eighties. And so f-ing good!
Classic.
Decent baby! 5
Excellent tune!

This song has the benefit of following Bob Dylan. Automatically a high score...without even trying. It has an annoying chorus though...geeez...shut up!!!
trippy segue

I'm pretty sure this album came out about five or six years before Hormonally Yours was released. Siobhan Fahey was probably still with Bananarama when this song came out.
Great song by the way.
Does anyone remember Shakespears Sister, I use to listen to them alot. The name of the Cd was Hormonally Yours, Bill this was a great CD. It came out about the same time as this CD.

JunkieXL recorded a new version of that song, on the "Booming Back At You" album. I think I prefer the original though

Anybody remember "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight"? I have, in my possession, a mix tape I made in high school with 3 versions of it, along with Cities in Dust, Billy Idol's Hot in the City, The Cult's She Sells Sanctuary, Madonna's Everybody... all dance remixes (I seem to remember them being called the 12" versions). How cool was I?
I don't know, man.....you lost my vote with Billy Idol and Madonna. Oh this is good
This one rocks, no doubt! Old but still hanging in there.
