18 dogs, an m-16 for company.
some boys commin over the horizon,
they'll be lookin for some hospitality.
Come on in boys the door's wide open,
but I'll warn you my dogs were born to win.
I'll take the greastest of pleasure,
in watchin you torn limb from limb.
Rumors startin down in the village,
those boys aint been heard of since that day.
But if anybody comes round askin questions,
Well I've got it worked out just what I'm gonna say.

Wow... thanks for sharing....
I don't think I'll be paying her a visit.
S'matter? Only like cats?
Outstanding! Brings Fairport Convention to mind.
It's a song about a woman who, when people arrive looking for a nice cup of tea (and perhaps a crumpet), invites them in then feeds them to her dogs. Possibly after shooting them with her assault rifle, although I'm not clear on that part. I'm couldn't find her on tripadvisor, so that's about all the info I have.
A M-16 is a assault rifle.
And Powderfinger
Fab that RP play it
Makes that whole #metoo thing pretty tame.
*bump
Story is a lot like the "Lady of Shalott" by Loreena McKennitt, based on Tennyson's Arthurian-themed poem (according to the article; wasn't sure how to cite it).
(I had to look that up: https://www.artgallery.co.uk/b...)

Some really good and some are like '' black the sky, weapons fly.save them for your race.In a race I'd vacuum all if I'd, but nature abhors vacuum, finally I inject a lttle dose of entropy. My welcome never been so absurd.
A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer... As one of the men was going from door to door outside her home trying to gain entry, McKinley told ABC News that she quickly got her 12 gauge, went into her bedroom and got a pistol, put the bottle in the baby's mouth and called 911. When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified.
I too assumed the "boys coming over the horizon" weren't dropping by for tea, but rather had more unpleasant intentions.
I first heard this song some years ago, and figured the same. Woman living alone out in the boonies, a prime target for unwanted advances. It's pretty easy to write a backstory as to why she lives alone, and why she has some apprehension about strange men comin' 'round.
Nice doggie. Niiiice doggie...

She gets my vote for POTUS.

Hmmm. I took her actions to be more defensive/reactive, not as a convenient way to get Alpo. She warns them supposedly...

Compares and would be on same playlist as song from Dixie Chicks about abusive husband named "Earl"...
In Texas...Famous court case of town bully-decades long bully- found shot multiple times in his truck..different calibers, different origin directions... No witnesses found... Town verdict "Some People Deserve Killin"...
Real life is a bit more abrupt and direct than TV and Nomenkultura mythos would have everyone believe... Walk softly, speak softly give respect and earn some by your efforts and over time...
TV-Hollywood distorts real relationships... Humans haven't evolved so very much in last 200 years...We are still the same creatures that wandered into the fading snow 40,000 years ago... same bodies, same genetics, same instincts (yes-these are real) and same reactions to forces that made us strong enough to survive wayback then...
Good Manners are a good place to start...Helping strangers for no expected reward also works...Being The Big Dog usually means that the pack will turn...

"Come on in boys the door's wide open . . ."
. . . sounds like a Straw Dogs scenario . . . with actual dogs.
Ditto. One gem after another. BTW, they did a second album, Half Smile, released on spinART in 2002.
Strange coincidence - this had been on my wish list for months, so my wife got me a copy for my birthday. Good album - definitely worth picking up if you like this one. Though the lyrics aren't (pardon the pun) as biting for most of the rest of the material.
Only problem with this band was that they just produced the one album that I can find. All the tracks are good, but I like many others on the release more than this one. I really enjoy the way the guitars play off each other.
Man, those acoustic guitars sound great. Nice production.
logs, bogs, hogs, frogs, mannnnnnn

Congrats for being 34 & having great taste in music! Who'd've thunk it? (..but, whatever...)

No. That's "The Doors" ;-) Well, almost.

Definite Sandy Denny influence. Not nearly as good as the great Sandy Denny, tho...simplistic in comparison. And I agree with other posters that they need to change their name...what are they thinking with a counter-productive name like that?
Still, likable and worthy of a 7...

I mean it, y'all are great, but sometimes these things do make a difference.
Talking of linguistic differences, the verb "to dog", like the term "bareback", now has a slightly more salacious meaning on this side of the Pond. So the question is: does Hank go dogging? ;)
I mean it, y'all are great, but sometimes these things do make a difference.
The meaning is the same there as well. Another song on the album says as much. The whole thing is outstanding.
Great song. Sounds like Amy Macdonald might have been influenced by the lead vocalist.
i'll be sure to check her out.

This tune is prolly not the best on the CD. Highly recommended.
I would, but somebody let the dogs out. Not sure who.
Might not make it out alive . . .

A little dissonance really goes a long way on this track, though.
It sure is, and they sure are. This is Dark, even for my taste (which can be outright bleak at times).
The entire CD is very good.
Like a stiff shot of Reposado, this serves as a fine OzMD antidote. . .

6:11 Hank Dogs - 18 Dogs
or put another way:
6:07 Be Good Tanyas
6:11 Be Bad Tanyas (not "bad" as a criticism of their music)
...and if they come back, they come back sans genitalia and various limbs, and filled full of holes. Else they feed the dogs...
So, who's Hank, and does he really dog? ;-)
