''This is a song about a card game''
Black queen, holding hearts
Black queen, tear the game apart
Black queen, don't you know?
Can't beat aces all in a row
Black queen, no you can't
Have mercy black queen
Don't you go mess with the black queen, no
Black queen, see the whole hand
Black queen, where's your black man?
Black queen, if he ain't in the hole
Black queen, you got some more to show me, black queen
Oh, get on me black queen
Oh, Lord, have mercy, black queen yeah
She's called to beat me clean
Black queen, where's your bank roll?
Black queen, where did it go?
Black queen, the truth is hard
Black queen, you're playin' foolish cards, black queen
Black queen, holding hearts
Black queen, tear the game apart
Black queen, don't you know?
Can't beat aces all in a row
Black queen, no you can't
Have mercy black queen
Don't you go mess with the black queen, no
Black queen, see the whole hand
Black queen, where's your black man?
Black queen, if he ain't in the hole
Black queen, you got some more to show me, black queen
Oh, get on me black queen
Oh, Lord, have mercy, black queen yeah
She's called to beat me clean
Black queen, where's your bank roll?
Black queen, where did it go?
Black queen, the truth is hard
Black queen, you're playin' foolish cards, black queen

been a while. Damn I love this song.
I've got no musical ability whatsoever but I know what I like, and just about everything Mr. Stills has recorded impresses me to the max.
Superior sounds!
Superior sounds!

Drop D is awesome, but this tune is very clearly in the key of C.
he could have been tuned to D G C F A D and then detuned his low D to a C. Also, you can play in any key in Drop D.

Drop D is an awesome tuning. D A D G A D is even better. Lose those flat picks kiddies and get down with yo bad sef!

Love it. I remember him walking onstage to join the Dead and they backed him on this one. Meadowlands I think? Rockin.
Another stoner, another mess!

Jimi really took a LOT of drugs.
is there a point to that statement?
if it wasn't for the drugs, we probably would never have heard of him.

Let's hear your acoustic guitar solo, dude! Maybe SS was freezin' his giraffe off. :-)
The guitar playing is good. If only Stills had made an instrumental of this.

True.
I've read that Stephen's Martin is the envy of many a fine guitarist, a fine instrument is a great aid to a great instrumentalist, no?
...the droning bass line
the pulled notes
cause me pleasing thought of
similarity to the acoustic number
fromn this movie ...
very nice
thank you ....

Hey, good one. That's David Crosby's quote from "4 Way Street" the live record they did with Neil Young. What an under-rated album that is!

I love Stephen and this album, have not heard it in so so long.

According to Psychedelic Psunday (Q107 Toronto), Stills did this in one take after downing most of a bottle of tequila, and for better or for worse that's what it sounds like.
Wonder how his head and throat felt the next day ...
Memories ... I saw Stephen Stills perform at UC Davis in spring, 1974. Since I had played the grooves off of my copy of Deja Vu and Crosby Stills and Nash I was as excited as a college freshman could be.
The show was horrible. Stills was trashed. I couldn't tell if he was drunk, or high, or both, but he couldn't sing and could barely play. My friends and I were so bummed out we left the show early, went back to the dorms, and got drunk ourselves.

maybe a little wacky tebakki, too. I just put my headphones back on and was like..."WHAT THE...!"

What a wanker.
Stills' blues are very much his own blues...the resonance in the voice, singular guitar sound and style...so nice.
This was a pretty cool album.
Lost in time, it appears. Too bad.
More, more more. He gets far too little air time these days.
So annoying, I actually had to turn off speakers for this one.

Funny "Stephen Stills" looks nothing like "FeydBaron".
Too many Steves, Stevens, & Stephens in the world I'm afraid, had to opt for something a little more identifiable for the internet.
And I honestly don't think I'd heard this track until now. That was a shame.
Not only did he write my favorite anthem to infidelity, he's also a kickass blues guitar player!
I just finished David Crosby's 2nd autobiography, and it became clear to me that he just loathes Stills . . . out of a 200 page book, Stills got maybe 3 sentences. Maybe.
Not saying Crosby is a beacon of sanity or anything, just found that fairly amusing.
