That crunch-fuzz bass right out of the starting line on this one is just so solid.
I think you maybe had to be there to really appreciate this now. I saw them for the first time in 1968, can't really describe what those days were like. Probably the acid...

Kansas was the opener. An all around amazing show. A later "Jefferson Starship" played the Bijou in Knoxville years after. Also a great show, and without the just "Starship" dreck. The name included "Jefferson" only if Kantner was in the band.

Was in Lima Peru spring of 73' met some gringos they mentioned they were the chemist for the Airplane. yeah right, but then they pulled out a viseine bottle and made us some blotter on a napkin. We took it when we climbed an obscure Inca ruin outside of Cusco. Climbed to about 16,000 feet in my cowboy boot on what turned out to be a festival day in the local village we started in. Incredible time
RIP Paul indeed. A bad year for rock n' roll legends thus far.

FWIW, the Crystal Ship refers to the oil drilling platforms off the coast back in the 60's and in particular up by Santa Barbara that were all lit up at night looking ships from the distance.

I agree that Blows Against the Empire was quite good, but after that... Everyone seems in agreement that latter day JS were awful and apparently at least had the good grace to not use "Jefferson" in the name (although that may have been compelled by legal means).

I like the music but I misprize the cover. Bombs are horrible.

While you\'re on this album, could you play Triad, written by David Crosby? I think it\'s a much better song.
