I feel good
It's a fine day
The way the sun hits off the runway
A cloud shifts
The plane lifts
She moves on

But feel the bite
Whenever you believe that
You'll be lost and love will find you
When the road bends
And the song ends
She moves on

I know the reason I
Feel so blessed
My heart still splashes
Inside my chest, but she
She is like a top
She cannot stop
She moves on

A sympathetic stranger
Lights a candle in the middle of the night
Her voice cracks
She jumps back
But she moves on

She says "Ooh my storybook lover
You have underestimated my power
As you shortly will discover"

The I fall to my knees
Shake a rattle at the skies
I'm afraid that I'll be taken
Abandoned, forsaken
In her cold coffee eyes

She can't sleep now
The moon is red
She fights a fever
She burns in bed
She needs to talk so
We take a walk
Down in the maroon light

She says "Maybe these emotions are
As near to love as love will ever be"
So I agree

Then the moon breaks
She takes the corner that's all she takes
She moves on

She says "Ooh my storybook lover
You have underestimated my power
As you shortly will discover"

Then I fall to my knees
I grow weak, I go slack
As if she captured the breath of my
voice in a bottle
And I can't catch it back

But I feel good
It's a fine day
The way the sun hits off the runway
A cloud shifts
The plane lifts
She moves on

Paul Simon has always had excellent percussionists supporting his music. They really make the song move, and the listeners along with it.

Rrowdie??   Maybe not his best, but tell me any other artist that have  some songs that are less than their best hits, but in their portfolio/audiography still great and enjoyable?   Tell us your favorite artist, then rank that artist's least ranked song in your opinion.  Keep loving music and those that entertain us.

This comment just makes you look silly. Graceland is a lament about the end of Paul Simon's relationship with Carrie Fisher. It is deeply personal, deeply felt, and painfully honest. Now let's have a look at your catalog.

Fully agree that this album is a masterpiece. My desert island pick.

My favorite Paul Simon album of all time. The preceding album, Graceland, achieved more popular success. For me, this one eclipses the high bar set by Graceland. It has more variety, subtlety and grace than Graceland. The richly layered sound is complex and compelling and yet it carries a simple and memorable melody and rhythm in most songs. Thanks Paul for enriching my life with such wonderful music that touches and incorporates influences from around the world.

Great album. But RP is wearing this out.
This is superb. As noted below, this is more subtle and delicate than Graceland and is all the better for it, to my ears.

Nothing as good as Rhythm, but he did release several albums:

1991 - The Concert in the Park
1997 - Songs from the Capeman
2000 - You're the One
2006 - Surprise
2011 - So Beautiful or So What
2016 - Stranger to Stranger
2018 - In the Blue Light
I was expecting Carlos to come in from the intro - I had not heard this before, and I like it.
A most excellent song from a great Paul Simon album!!

As much as I mostly don't care for Paul Simon's post-S&G material, I have to admit this is decent.
I love the delicacy of this whole album.
Great song! I think it's a very poetic, ingenious, and accurate description of entangling heart & soul with a person with bi-polar disorder.
She's moved on :(
Stunning, truly stunning.  IMHO.

If we are lucky, every morning.
Nice to see the love for this album.  If I was forced to choose a desert island disc, and if I chose this one, I would not look back with regret.
In Carrie Fisher's one woman play that I saw her perform in Berkeley, "Wishful Drinking", she does a family tree history of her life, which includes
her famous entertainment industry parents, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. When she gets to Paul Simon she says that "She Moves On" was the song he wrote about their break up.
I enjoy this song as much now as the day it was released. Rhythms, background vocals, lyrics... all good.
Paul Simon again this morning?
I thought "(Don't Want No Part of Your) Crazy Love" on the Graceland album was PS's goodbye to Carrie Fisher.
This whole album has such a smooth, unhurried feel to it. Not quite ambient, since it has a little more pulse. But not as insistent as most music.

A really pleasant groove.

As great as "Graceland" is, "Rhythm of the Saints" has always been my favorite Simon album, and easily one of my Top 10 of all time.  That said, Simon's latest, "So Beautiful or So What" is fantastic.

Agree that this is a great album, but I think his new stuff is terrific, too.

If this is his last great album - what a way to go!  This album holds up better than Graceland, in my opinion.

Ermm...He wrote "The Capeman, a musical that bombed on Broadway in '98. He put out the CD "Surprise" in '06. And he came out with a new album, "So Beautiful Or So What" this year; RP has played some of the songs from it.

I've always wondered whether this song is about the end of his marriage to Carrie Fisher—I know he makes reference to her in "Graceland." It just amazes me that they were ever involved; now that I look on Wikipedia, they were together (on and off) for almost ten years. Carrie in her day was doing all sorts of drugs; she had a reputation of being able to party as hard as John Belushi did before that speedball did him in. Then you throw in her bipolar disorder...Paul Simon OTOH seems as mild and clean as a church mouse.
I have to give Paul some points for the percussion.  And as I say this I realize that through the years it has been that element that has been the deciding factor for most of the Paul Simon songs that I've liked.

I first learned about this fight over "The Myth of Fingerprints" from another RPer. I tend to believe Los Lobos on this one. If you rely only on the Wikipedia article, Paul Simon pretty much dances around the issue and never states "Yes, I wrote this song on my own."

The way I see it, Paul screwed over Los Lobos when it came to "Myth"—or tried to. But the guy has decades of hits that he undisputedly wrote on his own.

I just saw the film "Watchmen" today, and "Sounds of Silence" was used, to great effect, in the soundtrack. As were Dylan, Leonard Cohen, My Chemical Romance, Hendrix, Billie Holliday, Nina Simone, Nat "King" Cole, and Janis Joplin. I can strongly recommend the film, but go to the bathroom before it starts. It's a very intricate story, and the film is nearly 3 hours long! {#Embarassed}

{#Yes}    My jaw dropped - I never thought I would hear S & G in a comic book movie!  Excellent use of music throughout the film!

Agree on the fact that the soundtrack was great. Disagree, I'm afraid, on the recommendation of the film (and I was a big fan of the graphic novel). But let a thousand flowers bloom!

A really beautiful album that has been in the shadow of Graceland for far too long. Not a weak song on this one. A desert island disc for me.
The bass twang at the beginning has made me smile ever since I first heard this song in dance class in HS. Thanks, Betsy! (me dancing, but should be a slower version of this guy){#Dancingbanana}

Amen to that! I couldn't agree more. Paul is #1 on my list of the most talented songwriter-musicians ever. He can rock out, he can whisper the most beautiful ballads, he incorporated elements of "world music" way before it was hip. He has endured for nearly 50 years with NO slumps in his output or quality. Always intelligent and eclectic!
one of the most talented and heady music men to survive the 60's.....living treasure from the era. i like this set...makes feel layed back in the Philippines. Oh, I am :-)
This last stretch from Morphine 4:26 to Youngbloods 6:09 has been one of the best on RP in years! OUTSTANDING MOOD-STRING rock on
I like the clean, wall of sound on this song.
Dead Can Dance - The Snake and the Moon into Paul Simon - She Moves On Awesome transition. Not my favorite track off RotS but still very good, so it gets an 8.
Sometimes this album gets pegged for being Graceland's loser cousin but it has some truly wonderful stuff. A song like this just grooves so nicely it burrows into your subconscious in a beautiful way. The perfect poetic lyrics are a bonus.
