You can make out pretty good
When you're on your own
And you know just where you are
When you wanna roam
Got the moon above your head
And the road beneath your feet
Pull into a wooded glen
Make your own retreat
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di daaa
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di daaa
Gypsy!
Laying underneath the stars
Can be so much fun
Especially when you're feeling good
When you're with the one you love
Sway to sounds of two guitars
Around the campfire bright
Then mellow out like violins
In the morning light
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di daaa
La da di id di di di
La da di di di di di daaa
Gypsy!
No matter where you wander
And no matter where you roam
Any place you hang your hat
You know that that is home, check it out first
Sway to sounds of two guitars
Around the campfire bright
Then mellow out like old violins
In the morning light
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di
La da di di di di di daaa, hep
La da di di di di di

Morrison is, always has been, grossly overrated IMO. He has a distinctive but somewhat strained voice but otherwise I see little merit.

Great album, one of Van's gems. Listen to the Lion is one of my favorite songs of his.

Be nice if this album was reissued.

Hey RP,
C'mon, play the title song. It's one of his best songs from that best song writing period in his life.

On a related note, I'd love to hear some Chieftans on RP. Anyone got any uploads for Bill?
I've got Van's album with the Chieftans that I can upload a few songs from. Good idea. We'll see if/when it gets played though.

No. It'll be Cher's 'Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves.'

Not my favourite Van song, to be honest.

What can I say? I just hate the man's voice.
Y'know, I went through the same thing with Neil Young and Bob Dylan. I'll tell you what I've said before here: Listen to the words and the feelings - get past the voice and go deeper. The soul isn't in the vocals - it's in the lyrics and the music and the depth of emotion.
Some music can be listened to on a superficial level, because it's meant to be listened to that way (think bubblegum.) Other music is created in the hopes that the listener will raise the bar on his or her perceptions and open his or her mind to possibilities, not close it because a note is off or a chord doesn't seem to fit.
Gads, I love music. Eight basic notes, but with sharps and flats and imagination, true art is created.
Sparks: "What kind of music do you listen to?"
Nikita: "I don't listen to music."
Sparks: "Why is that?"
Nikita: "Music evokes emotion."
Sparks: "Emotion spawns genius."
Nikita: "Emotion blurs judgement." (From "La Femme Nikita")
Will always dig Van!

I just find 'Van the Man' just so boring?
Just why is he held in so much high esteem?....I suppose the acid period of the 60's and the rest you forget?...
I'd go as far as bollocks on this one.....
Two words to you, my friend - Astral Weeks

What, a Van Morrison song that's not "Moon Dance"? Someone's slipping.
no no, someone's paying attention.
Great song and album.
What a body of work for this guy. Doesn't get the attention he deserves.
60s and early 70s Van is all very good but it would be nice to hear some more of his 80s and 90s work in the mix here too... alot of it is excellent as well.

Leave it to someone with the moniker "rulebrittania" to diss Van. ;^)
I didn't used to "get" Van Morrison either, back when I was in college. Now I can't get by without him. This is a great album, as is Veedon Fleece.
Is Gypsy Eyes from JIMI next?
I totally enjoy and respect Van, but not this song, it has nothing to offer to me musically, I understand the connection with the other gypsy song, but..come on.
What can I say? I just hate the man's voice.
Great great LP.
Classic Van. Thanks B&R
Van, you still the man!
